“How did it get so late so soon?”

June 5, 2018

Coffee will be late today.

It is cloudy and cold so I slept in to avoid the day. What I forgot is I have early PT so I only get to read one paper and drink one cup of coffee before I leave. I have not enough time for musing.

After PT, I have to do yesterday’s errands because it rained so hard I didn’t leave the house. Coffee today will be an afternoon affair so dress appropriately!

Thank you for your patience!

I am truly late for a variety of reasons, the foremost being I didn’t wake up until 11:15, yup, 11:15, but I am going to be even later as I have to take my car for a new battery. It died on Christmas Eve and has just been jumped by AAA. I’ll be back later as there is plenty of Christmas to chat about.

Just in Case

This is a reminder that if something happens here, I have an alternative set just in case:

Keep the Coffee Coming.

The Parade is coming!!

I did it! I figured out the problem after reading more MAC solutions that I ever care to again. I’ll be back tomorrow!

“Then followed that beautiful season… Summer….Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape, Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.”

Summer begins today with the solstice at 12:38 P.M. which means summer begins in 33 minutes here on Cape Cod.

This morning it was pouring and the thunder rumbled. The rain has since stopped but no sun has appeared to greet the new season. That’s okay-I will!

Happy Summer!!

“To lovers of adventure and novelty, Africa displays a most ample field.”

The day is bleak and rainy. The house was cold when I woke up so I turned on the heat and then finished the rest of my morning rituals. I made the coffee, got the papers, filled the dog’s dry food bowl, changed the water in the dog dish and then sat down to read the papers. The animals got their morning greetings then they went back to sleep. They are, of course, in their usual spots. Mornings never change around here.

Last night my palm tree was lit for the first time since the big snowstorm. It was unexpected. The tree had stopped lighting in February, and I hadn’t been able to check the connections as they were under feet of snow. All the melting this week uncovered the cord, and I saw the plug had disconnected from the timer. Reconnecting it didn’t work. The plug looked as if it had taken too much of a beating under all that snow. I put it back into the timer as best I could. Whatever I did to the plug seemed to work. When I was checking for the dog last night, I was happily surprised to see the lit palm tree. It is a tradition. Even the neighbors made comments when it wasn’t lit. They’ll be happy to see it again.

The first palm trees I ever saw were in Ghana. My geography book had come to life. I was thrilled. We were headed to Winneba and the road to that first training site was along the ocean. It was lined with palm trees. I could see coconuts hanging from below the fronds. Some trees looked bent in odd ways. I was finally somewhere exotic and not a scrub pine was in view. Little did I know what else awaited me.

Happy Anniversary

August 21, 2014

Last Sunday we celebrated my birthday. It is also the day I retired ten years ago. It was during that first year of retirement that I started Coffee, exactly when I’m not sure but it was close to when I retired.

Coffee has gone through a variety of transitions: colors, formats, music genres, photos and so much more. It was unceremoniously dumped from Blogger, but, like the Phoenix, rose from the ashes and moved to WordPress. Some of you have been with me the whole time and some of you drop by every day. That makes all of you family.

I mentioned I would like guest commentators. I didn’t mention why. Now you know it is a celebration, a chance for the family to weigh in on just about anything except politics. Think about it. If I can find fodder for ten years worth of writing, you can give one day a try.

Happy Birthday from Birgit.

“When people refer to ‘Back in the Day,’ it was a Wednesday. Just a little fun fact for you.”

August 13, 2014

Every Wednesday is GnuFool day on Coffee. He jumps in to fill the gap of no posting from me. Every week he posts great videos of songs, many old ones I remember well. Do check them out and enjoy! You’ll find them in the comments of the last posted picture.

Thanks, Gnu!!
