“This is how you do it: you sit down at the keyboard and you put one word after another until its done. It’s that easy, and that hard.”

I am in a funk. I have been struck by malaise. Maybe it’s the rain’s fault. It does get old after 4 or 5 days. Maybe it’s my back which has been hurting and making me grumpy. My plans for the day were to stay home, not get dressed and lie in bed and read. Now I have to go out to get cat food. The only 2 cans left are back-ups, food I bought for them to taste which they hated and left untouched in the dish. Rather than toss the cans, I kept them as an emergency supply hoping hunger would overcome distaste. It didn’t happen so I have to get dressed and go to Agway. I thought I’d take a break today and not write Coffee, but then I got started and just kept going. I guess I need a place where I can whine and complain a bit.

The sun was out this morning for about ten minutes. I got hopeful. Foolish me! The gray, damp day has returned. I suspect we’ll have rain later. I had to run the heat again for one cycle this morning. With the cold, I have to keep the back door shut which complicates Gracie going in and out. I figure I’ll put the storm door in today. That’s a surrender of sorts.

Right now Gracie’s deep breathing, her occasional snores and the tap of the keys are all I can hear. The house is almost eerily quiet.

I have the habit of reading what I write out loud. I have to hear the words. My ears tell me more about the language than my eyes. I make corrections based on the sounds of the connected words and on the choices of words. Sometimes it takes me a while to correct a single sentence until it sounds right. I am now at the read aloud stage. I am done writing.

Today is going to be beautiful with clear skies and mild temperatures in the low 80s. I returned from Miami a day early and called American Express to change my ticket. It was going to cost $300 more. However, I bought a one way ticket on Thursday to return on the same flight yesterday. Saved the company $100, an extra night in the hotel and meals and got home yesterday. The airline business’ pricing scheme makes no sense to a rational human being.

      Bob,
You lost me on the ticket. If you had a ticket but bought another, where did you save $100.00 on the ticket as you now had two?

Low 80’s I’d take for a day or two so everything can dry. It’s getting near closing the deck time but I need it all to be dry before that can happen. We’ll be in the 50’s all week.

      Enjoy your sunshine!

The first ticket was a round trip DFW to MIA to DFW $218 To change that ticket would cost an additional $300. Instead of paying $300 to change the ticket I bought a one way ticket for $206. $218 + $206 = $424 total. If I changed the first ticket it would be $218 + $300 = $518

        Thanks, Bob
Now I get it. I was a bit confused at first but laying it out makes sense.

I don’t want to frustrate you but it’s still nice here, mostly sunny and we haven’t had rain for about a week. No heating yet but I have to wear a warm sweater and socks. Grocery shopping on Sundays is still unthinkable and I like this day off. Public holiday yesterday so 2 days without shopping this weekend, no problem.
Best Cat Food ever though your cats may disagree: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cuFpVt_T8k
    Get well!

      Birgit,
Did you think about not telling me? The day has deteriorated since this morning. I got my cat food and am now home ready to get comfy.

I have to wear a sweatshirt around the house as I only put my heat on in the morning.

      My cats would disagree.

You scared me by considering to skip Coffee. How can I start my day without it? As you know one can live without, but who wants that?
Even the consideration alone opens wide barren images of a future with you on a long stay in Ghana and I without coffee.
You don’t hear often from me and that is mainly because I’m satisfied with the barista, so please continue perculating.
My own life is pretty repetitious, one could say boring or dull, but I prefer comfortable. I go out to lunch in a different place each day of the week and have stacks of books, which I continue buying while still well stocked with unread books. My idea of luxury.

      Bert,
It seems I just couldn’t do it. I started to give my apologies then the words started coming and before I knew it, I had written Coffee.

We’ve got a year before I go to Ghana again. While there I do try to write a few times but wifi isn’t common except in big cities.

I’m with you on wanting to be comfortable. I’m also with you in buying books. I have to read. It’s as important to me as breathing. I can’t imagine day without reading time.

As for lunch, I don’t go out that much though maybe I should once a week just because….

Rest assured, Bert, I’m still working those keys!!

    Hi Kat,
Yesterday was a do nothing sort of day. I didn’t do anything except the minimum. I’m just catching up on my online stuff because I didn’t do that either. But I didn’t do anything interesting in its place. I was a lot like the weather. Dull.

I don’t read what I write aloud unless it’s something I’m going to have to say out loud in front of people. There are times when portions of books that I’m reading just have to be read aloud. Something about the phrasing or the content needs to be voiced. So I read aloud to myself. It’s like singing, I guess. Silent singing just doesn’t sound the same. 🙂

Today started with a big patch of blue but it disappeared shortly after we got outside in it. Now it’s just the same as it has been all weekend. Grey, dampish. No wind, though. And the heat hasn’t come on at all so that’s an improvement. I guess.

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
I actually changed my bed yesterday, an item from my Thursday list. I read a lot yesterday and took a nap.

I have to hear what my words sound like. I end up changing some every time I read them. Once in a while a sentence flummoxes me as I can’t seem to get it sounding the way I want it. I stubborn enough to keep with it until I’m happy.

We had two small patches of blue around 11:30, but I think they left by 11:32. It is also grey and dampish here as well.

      Have a great afternoon
