Zoey and Me

When I started writing this blog, I never thought about new friends. I figured to write a few thoughts, post a couple of songs and sent my offerings into cyberspace. The few time I got a comment I was thrilled. Someone had found me and thought enough to let me know. In those early days, some people stayed around and often made comments, but over the years they just sort of disappeared. Greg stayed as did Mark and Pat still drops by to visit. New people appeared over the years, made comments and many of them stayed. We have shared our feelings, our experiences and our dreams. I realized we had become friends. Meeting each other in person wasn’t necessary; we had already met in all the best ways.

One of those friends passed away yesterday. When I was in Ghana, I knew something was wrong. It was so unlike him not to comment about my trip. He had followed last year’s flight and was looking forward to this year’s which is one of the reasons I had posted my itinerary.

Victor visited Coffee just about every day, and I dropped by to visit him at The Cat in the Bag. I always wrote Z& Me when I answered his comments, and that’s the way we all knew him.

This morning his wife Ann sent notice that Z&Me had passed away. I cried. I have lost a friend, and I will miss him: Zoolatry.

Sad news. Cancer had won once again. May he rest in peace.
His blog was one of the first I followed regularly since January 2010 (just like KTCC) and it was always a refreshing and often funny view of “sane America” especially in times when mainly the crazy thinking of the Bush era made it to the official news in Europe. I will miss his blog and comments. My thoughts are with his family (Sorry, I can not comment on blogspot, where it would belong).
May be inappropriate, but I would like to add a song in memoriam:
The Wailin’ Jennys – Long time traveler

I too have followed his blog for a long time and throughly enjoyed his viewpoint so reflective of my own. His political cartoons were wonderful and Caturday was such a fun day.

      That’s a perfect song!

I’m sorry to hear this. I only knew Z&M through Coffee and Cottage by the Crane Lake. I shall miss his comments.

I too will miss his comments and his humor. He and I shared the same viewpoint so I appreciated his funnies and his news articles. Most of all, though, I will miss his visits.

I too feel like we’re part of a family here and it is so difficult to lose a family member, especially one who visited every day.

What sad news. I recognize several names from the comments over the years, and his was one of the regulars. I wish his family peace.

Just in case you don’t follow “Cat in the Bag” anymore,
this beautiful post by his wife shouldn’t be missed:

    • Thank you, Birgit, as I had missed that entry. I did visit Cat in the Bag and saw the link but I went right to that one link and not the earlier pages. That was a beautiful tribute.
