“The pack slumbered and only a few watchdogs rattled their chains.”
Winter has left the building. We’re back to 43° today, but a bit of a cold breeze reminds me I live near the ocean. I love that breeze all summer, but I dread it this time of year.
The deck is my favorite summer spot, but I wish I had a porch which would be lovely and warm today. Both Gracie and I could nap there.
Last night I watched from the red carpet to the end of the Academy Awards. My friend Clare and I rated all the dresses and wondered what some women were thinking when they donned some really ugly dresses. It’s a good thing I don’t work greeting people on the red carpet as I suspect, “Why did you pick that really ugly dress?” would not be a welcomed question. How about, “Do you know that dress is a bit dowdy?” Nope, I’d lose my job quickly. I don’t gush.
Last night 4 cars on my street were vandalized, one worse than the others. They used some sort of cream, like hand cream, to cover my neighbor’s car then left some cream on a couple of others as well as mine but in only a few spots. We figured they were running our after covering my neighbor’s vehicle. All that happened between 5:30 and 11:30. All of us have dogs, but none of them barked though I told everyone Gracie did, but I have no idea if she really did as I wasn’t home to hear her. We laughed and commented that my friends’ dog barks at air but not vandals. We wondered if Cody, who lives in the house with the car most covered, barked and was told to go back to sleep. Another neighbor has sensor lights which are quite sensitive, but none of us saw them lit. We were too busy watching TV, and my neighbor’s TV is in the back of their house so they couldn’t see the lights come on in the front. I figured those lights lit up the area to give the vandals a better view.
Maybe we all need signs on our lawns which say: Be Quiet! Dogs sleeping! My neighbors can add one which says: Walk a bit. The lights will come on should you need them.

I woke up at 3 am this night with pain in my entire body, the influenza has hit me hard. But I thought I would takle a look at the Oscar’s but realized they had moved it to a channel I don’t have! So I went back to bed even if it was impossible to fall asleep again 🙂
Winter came back today but it will only be for today, tomorrow warm winds from You will arrive and make life nicer again 🙂
I’m glad they didn’t do anything worse with Your cars anyway! But I’ve realized that dogs never bark when we want them to 🙂 🙂 🙂 But if a butterfly flies by they go crazy 🙂 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
Nothing is worse than the body ache from the flu. I hope you are feeling better after sleeping during the day.
It was 45° today and a pretty pleasant day. Gracie and I did a few errands.
The stuff didn’t come off in the car wash. I’ll have to do it with a spoonge as it takes a bit of muscle.
You’re so right about dogs.

Hi Kat,
That photo is the essence of lazy summer day. I can almost catch a whiff of sun-warmed dusty wood and doggy fur mixed with grass and flowers.
I have a glassed-in porch that faces south and is my refuge on sunny winter days when it gets to be about 80 F out there. It’s my little piece of Florida.
Sorry that someone took advantage of Oscar night to vandalize the neighborhood. I’m sure my dog would have barked and I would have told him to be quiet since there is never anything out there when he barks. Except skunks, turkeys, deer and coyotes but they don’t count. 🙂
Partly cloudy and high 40’s up here today. I’m sick with a stomach bug but feeling better.
Enjoy the day.

Hi Caryn,
I thought the same thing about that picture. Gracie lies like that but on the lounge on the deck. She is into creature comfort.
I was thinking about you and your porch when I wrote that. I am a bit jealous of it.
I know Darci, my friends’ dog, barks at everything and she was quiet most of the night.
I hope the sun drove out the bug!

I really liked quite a few of the dresses this year, although apparently some people thought Penelope Cruz looked like she was wearing satin sheets, while I thought her quite princessy.

sprite,
I too really liked a lot of the dresses, but I wondered if very little jewelry is the trend. Some of the lower cut dresses seemed to need a necklace to be complete.
We also gave some of the tuxes thumbs up.

AR..don’t bet against the Big Brother combo of Rachel and Brandon…..Ms Rachel is very bright.

My Dear Hedley,
Bright? I wouldn’t go that far.

I really didn’t pay much attention to the dresses, but I’m a man so I am more interested in what’s in them. I haven’t seen the best picture winner, but I don’t think I would waste my money seeing a black and white silent movie no matter how much artistic meaning the academy places on the film. Maybe they are throwing the French a bone, since they couldn’t put the film in the foreign language category.
Billy Crystal was worth the price of admission. The price being having to sit through all those presenters and winning speeches. The academy should ensure that the MC job alternates between Crystal and Woopie Goldberg. Only a comedian in the vein of Johnny Carson or Bob Hope can stand up to the job of keeping the show funny and interesting.
Today was another clear day with temperatures in the 60s. Hopefully winter is over until December.

Bob,
That movie was really good. I was surprised at how much I liked it. I didn’t think a silent film could hold my interest. That one certainly did.
You’re right about Billy, and I did mention Whoopie to my friends as the other emcee I really liked.
It was mid 40’s again today. We had a cold day yesterday and complained. We are spoiled here.
