I think it was the loss of front porches which made neighbors unknown to each other, a wave on the way by maybe. My father always sat on the front steps drinking hot coffee and reading his paper. He knew the whole neighborhood, and they ho need on the way by his house.
I would love a house with a front porch. My deck is huge, but it isolates me from the neighbors.
