I have no idea why this is the classic New Year’s Eve song, but it is an oldie. Guy’s entire musical career is tied to this one piece of music.

The Lombardos, Guy and his three brothers, are believed to have sold between 100 and 300 million records during their lifetimes. Louis Armstrong said Lombardo’s band is his favorite orchestra.
played New Year’s Eve. Guy and his orchestra played on New Year’s Eve for almost a half-century which is maybe the reason for the sobriquet.

“Every year, The Royal Canadians’ recording of the traditional song “Auld Lang Syne” still plays as the first song of the new year in Times Square followed by “Theme from New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra, “America the Beautiful” by Ray Charles, “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong, and “Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole.[” (from Wikipedia)
