“He who lights his [candle] at mine receives light without darkening me.”

Yesterday was freezing, and I had a busy day. The post office was first. I went to mail the packages which should have gone out with the rest of them on Monday, but I had left in my trunk. Priority mail won’t make it by Christmas the clerk told me. I asked how I could have a guarantee. He said pay $100.00, and everyone behind me in line laughed. I didn’t pay. The other two stops were medical; well, one was dental. They found a tooth which needs a crown.

Around nine last night the snow started. It came whipping down sideways from the north. I know that because when I ran across the street to get my mail, my face got pelted. I put up my hood. My face still got pelted. The car had a snow layer which looked icy. I was careful.

When I woke up this morning, I could hear the rain. What snow there is looks ugly, pitted. When I went to get the papers, I left footprints in the slush, and the bottoms of my flannel pants got wet. The streets have two tire tracks filled with slush. It is an ugly day. The rain will turn into snow later, but the amount is iffy. The paper had this description of today’s weather, ” Windy with wet snot at times.”

I have housekeeping chores today. There is a pile of boxes to be put into the car and one trash bag for the trunk. I hate the clutter. Two packages came today. I found the first wrapped in plastic on the steps. I could see the slushy footprints of the delivery man. Henry alerted me to the second delivery. There was a package from Target on my steps delivered by a regular driver in a regular car who waved: it was sort of odd. One box has a gift for my sister. I’ll just readdress the box and sent it along. The other has a Christmas vinyl tablecloth with the best colors and wonderful designs of Santas, trees and stockings. It is a just in case keeper. I also bought some socks.

Today is dark so the living room is night time lit. The tree is on as are candles around the room. On the hearth is a winter scene, a birthday gift this past year. It nicely lights up that side of the fireplace. My painted gourd is lit as are a wooden star and twigs with lights among pussy willows. The low light in the room, the quietness of it all, gives me a sense off comfort. I like to sit there in the living room. Jack likes to sleep on the anti-scratch chair cover, there because of him, a bit of irony. Henry sleeps on the rug. He knows to stay off the living room couch.

I’ve been playing Christmas albums on my record player. I love the sound, scratches and all. Do I need to mention the album my classmates and I made with Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadiens? I played that album first. The one early note in Winter Wonderland is my celebrity moment.

    Hi Kat,

The snow storm making its way up the coast is just the first one of the season. So, be careful driving because everyone else has forgotten how to drive in the snow. 🙂 Probably this event will be less of an impact on people’s lives bcause so many people are working from home. Better you than me.

Last night we had our first freeze and luckily my pool guy figured out why the freeze guard was not turning on the pump. He called the pump manufacturer’s tech rep and discovered there was a menu to set the temperature that would activate the pump. It thankfully ran all night. Water freezing in the pump will split the case requiring a new and expensive pump. Today the sun is shining and the high should reach 60°.

The major advantage of Chanukah is that if you’re late getting the gifts sent out, there’s eight more days and it’s still Chanukah. It’s a holiday designed for procrastinating. 🙂

The latest I read today is that Trump is so convinced he won that he won’t leave the White House on January 20th. I think it would be a fitting end to the nightmare of the last four years when he’s physically removed by the secret service live on TV in front of everybody. 🙂 It turns out he can’t move to Mar-a-Lago because he signed it off as a club and it’s a historic something or other. He might have to move back to cold NYC. That would make it easier for the NY DA to arrest him on charges of tax and insurance fraud. 🙂

Wow! You still have a record player. I have a ton of vinyl records that were either mine or my father’s and I keep them in a Cabinet for some reason. No record player but many of the albums are now digitized.

      Hi Bob,
The rain pretty much cleared the roads. We had rain most of there day, but it has now turned back to snow. I’ve heard traffic so I know people are out, but I have no reason or need to be out so I’ll happy here at home. I even filled all the bird feeders yesterday.

It’s a good thing your pool guy figured out who to call. Would only freezing once kill the pump or would it take a bit more freezing time?

The dog’s outside bowl had a thin layer of ice this morning. That wasn’t surprising as it was supposed to go down to the teens last night, and I was cold running around doing errands during the day. I even had to wear mittens when I filled the bird feeders. My outside water was turned off a month or so ago. My guy also drained the irrigation system before turning it off. We’ll have a bit of a warm up next week, 50˚ on Christmas Eve.

They were talking about that same thing today on MSNBC. He has told aides he’ll be staying. I agree about him being dragged maybe kicking and screaming from the White House. What a joy to watch. When he switched Mar-a-Lago from a private home to a club, he had to sign an agreement with the town. Party of it is a stipulation he can’t stay there longer than, I think, 21 days in a row. They were saying on the news he has no home to go to.

It is a new record player which looks like an old bakelite record player. It is compact but has a great sound. I had so many record I needed something to play them on. Vinyl is making a comeback. There are new vinyl albums being cut.

I have no idea how cold or for how long it would take for the pool pump to freeze. I’m glad he figured out how to get it working. I just didn’t need the expense of replacing it right now. This is the first, only and last swimming pool I’m ever owning. 🙂 My next move is going to be either to the old folks home, the memory care center or the cemetery.

My son claims that music on analog devices sounds better than digital or even solid state amplifiers. Very high end stereo amplifiers use vacuum tubes which supposedly make the sound richer. I can’t hear the difference after years of flying noisy airplanes. 🙁

I don’t know what planet Republicans are living on? Every court from counties, state, federal, appellate and the Supreme Court have refused to hear any cases of voter fraud brought to them. Today, they are doing a comparison of signatures on absentee ballots in Gorgia which probably won’t make a difference. But, now some Republican Senators are thinking about contesting the electoral college vote in Congress on January sixth. One Virgina State Representative suggested that Trump declare Martial Law, and have the military run another election. When did these idiots decide that we live in a Central American banana republic? 🙁

My neighbors put in a pool. They are the only ones around who did. They regret it as it is just the two of them now. I always knew this would be my first and last house.

Vinyl is coming back because it is supposed to be the best sound. I have a slew of records from my teen years and even my early teaching time. I haven’t been through them for a while. I need to do that.

I don’t understand. I can never understand what the republicans think they are doing. They want a coup on a president who isn’t president yet. These republicans are breaking their oath of office:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

I think it is time to start censoring them.

The rain has been pouring down all day here and I didn’t think the day could be darker than they have been these last four weeks but today showed it could 🙂 🙂

They say it’ll start to be abit chilly at christmas eve but that’s so far away that my guess is that they are wrong like always :-.) 🙂 🙂

There’s one radio channel that plays only christmas songs this entire month and that’s the one I’m listening to in my car, I don’t know why but I’ve stopped to listen to the radio at home. This year I’ve learned that there actually are loads of really bad christmas songs 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Hi Christer,
We shared your rain, but we added cold to the rain. It was a freezing day. The snow is back, and it is 34˚ now and will get down to the 20’s tonight. I’m staying nice and warm inside.

The opposite will be for us next week. It will get warmer, the 40’s next week with a lot of rain predicted, and 50’s on Christmas Eve.

I’ve been listening to my radio station play Christmas music since the day after Thanksgiving. I’ve noticed some songs get repeated far too often. They do play all sorts of singers so no complaints from me.

      Enjoy your Friday!

  3. Caryn Says:

    Hi Kat,
Yesterday my only errand was to take Rocky and Piki Dog to Shannon, the groomer, to have their claws clipped. They were not amused. But their feet are so much quieter now.

The snow has been sifting down since 11PM last night. I know this because I peeked out the window around then and it was just starting. My town got an official 12 inches by late this morning but the final tally will be much more. There’s at least 4 new inches on top of my jeep. The plow guy came in early afternoon so most of that is removed but the town plows are out neatening up the streets so I’ll be shoveling out tomorrow. Or next week.
“Windy with wet snot” is perfect. 😀

Tonight is Zoom knit night with friends. One of the group drove around yesterday dropping off cookies that she made so we could all share.

    Enjoy the evening.

      Hi Caryn,
Last time, Lee, half of my cleaning couple, held Henry’s paws while I snipped the ends. Henry’s nails need it again. Luckily, Lee is coming on Wednesday.

It was windy so I’m guessing wet snot was part of the description.

The rain has just turned back to snow. I only noticed when I went to the back door to let Henry inside. I’m hoping now I can load some of the boxes into the car without getting wet. Half of the dining room is covered with them. Henry won’t go near that side of the room.

I don’t know how much snow we’ll end up getting. I think they said 1-3 after the rain stopped but that was a while back.

That’s a great idea, Zoom with friends! I loved her dropping off cookies!

      Have a great time.

    Hi Kat,
I’ll write more later, once again my eyes are tired. Did the weather report really say windy weather with snot on top? Did you save a copy? I’m thinking of the reporter who said freezing frog and meant freezing fog.
    I’ll write more later.
    Love,
    Lori and Cookie

      Lori,
It was a weather report with no author listed. I chuckled right away!!

      Take care!
      Love,
      Kat and the gang
