The song of the morning is “What a Difference a Day Makes.” We have a breeze. The humidity is much less than it has been the whole week. I have doors and windows open. The air from the window behind me is even a bit chilly. Earlier I did see a bit of blue but now the sky is gray. It is only 72Λ and the high will be just 75Λ. That’s delightful, gray skies or not.
Sometimes, when I wake up, I have no idea what day of the week it is. It’s not all that important in the scheme of things, but I admit to being somewhat curious. Mostly what I did the day before is the key, but if it was a sloth day, I have to think a bit harder. It was so much easier when I worked. The days never blended together. Which day of the week made a difference then. It doesn’t anymore.
I was busy on the deck yesterday. I replaced dead with living plants in the smallest pots. I watered all the plants and filled the bird feeders. The birds seem to prefer the feeders hanging from tree limbs. I still need to get the fountain working and put the new lights on the deck rail for the spawns to eat.
I’m beginning to feel like Old Mother Hubbard. My cupboards are bare. When I open the fridge, I’m blinded by the light as the fridge is mostly empty, but I have some cheese so all is not lost.
I think the kids in my neighborhood have been kidnapped. My advice is not to pay the ransom. The quiet is wonderful. I hear only the singing birds. If this makes me a crotchety old lady, then so be it.
I really like hot dogs in toasted rolls. They are best grilled or fried though I’ll even eat them boiled. At Fenway they do both. First the dogs are boiled then fried. I’m not a fan of kraut on my dogs, but I do like chopped onions. I’m a mustard and piccalilli aficionado but relish will do. I like all sorts of mustards though yellow mustard is low on my list. When I was a kid, yellow mustard was all we had. No one ever used ketchup on a hot dog. It was for burgers, one of my all time favorite foods. I, however, am partial to mayonnaise on my burgers. I even use it with French fries.
I haven’t had seafood for a while. I’m thinking scallops or fish and chips. I have to go out later so I’m going to treat myself at Captain Frosty’s. Their onion rings are the best. I’m already salivating at the thought.

We had seafood yesterday for lunch. There’s a seafood restaurant called ‘Aw Shucks’ which serves some really fresh sea food. I had the fried shrimp basket with fries and my spouse had the fried oyster basket. My daughter had the fried oyster Po Boy. It’s kind of a New Orleans style casual seafood joint.
We visited a friend and his wife yesterday who live on an acre and a half in Collin County. They have chickens that they keep in a coop in their yard and they gave us a dozen fresh eggs. We had some for dinner and they are delicious. As long as you don’t wash the shells the eggs can stay on the counter for a couple of months and remain good to eat. The store bought variety have to be refrigerated here in the US because they wash the eggs which removes the natural protection from the shell to prevent salmonella.
Today fresh seafood can be had anywhere in the US. A coworker of mine is a retired pilot from Southwest Airlines and he used to bid the flight he called the oyster run. This trip left New Orleans early in the morning for Baltimore Washington Airport. They carried several hundred pounds of sacks of Gulf oysters to be served in the restaurants of Baltimore. Chesapeake Bay was so polluted that they were importing oysters from the gulf and selling them as blue point oysters.
The weather for today in North Texas is just like yesterday when we hit 101 degrees which is only 38.3 degrees Celsius. We didn’t attempt to fry the eggs on the sidewalk for obvious reasons. π

I’m thinking my fresh is quick in time from the ocean to the plate. I can go and buy the seafood right from the boats.
I am not an oyster fan, but I do love shrimp. My mother was such a shrimp lover she always ordered it at all the seafood restaurants. I’d order it now and then just to mix up my meals a bit.
I used to collect the eggs from my hens and have them them the next day. None of the eggs in the market in Ghana were ever refrigerated. The meat wasn’t either, but we still took the chance and bought it. Near me a woman sells her goose eggs on the side of the road, and I buy them periodically.
It is still chilly and cloudy. I didn’t mind replanting the flowers today.

Very windy here today and mostly sunny. Clouds have arrived now and they all seem to build up to become thunderclouds. I don’t mind a good thunderstorm but I think this one will miss us unless there are plenty more behind coming this way.
Hotdogs are always eaten with ketchup here in Sweden and preferable mashed potatoes even if fries will work too. The speciality in Gothenburg is either a half special with one hotdog put in a grilled bread and two clicks of mashed potatoes. A full special is two hotdogs with a grilled bread but beside the hotdogs and two clicks of mashed potatoes. Mustard and ketchup after demand. In thsi area one can have a hotdog with half of each as they say, that’s one click of mashed potatoes and half a portion with fries π π Hamburgers are always with fries though.
I’ll go to the hospital tomorrow to get x-rayed and I might stop to get a full special or perhaps a hamburger with all things on it, that means dressing, raw onions, pickled cucumber and whet ever else they might offer π

I love thunderstorms and the downpours they sometimes bring. We can use a good rainstorm. It has been a while.
Mashed potatoes are never served with hot dogs here. Fries are just as with hamburgers. I’m not sure if I’d like mashed with dogs. I am a firm believer that ketchup does not go on a dog, a hamburger usually.
I do love pickled cucumber. I could order that full special and try the mashed.

They always make the mashed potatoes in the hotdogs stand and never use powdered, if thay had they would soon go bankrupt π I do prefer mashed potatoes with the hotdogs π

What’s a “click” of mashed potatoes? I’m envisioning a machine that dispenses mashed potatoes when a button is pressed. Sort of like soft serve ice cream. π

they use something that looks like a very, very big melon scoper. So a click is whenthey press out (klick) a round ball of mashed potatoes π

Hi Kat,
I had scallops for breakfast this morning. I had to buy a whole pound which is too much for just me so I was dividing them up into eat now and freeze for later. So I ate the Eat Now ones. They were delicious. I almost went into the freezer to pull out a few more.
I like my hot dogs scored and boiled briefly to remove some of the salt and fat and then placed on the grill and lightly charred. I eat them with brown mustard and Howard’s.
When we were kids we used to impale the hot dogs on a fork and hold them over the open gas burner until they caught on fire at one end. Then we’d pretend they were rocket ships. My mother was not amused. π
Today is lovely up here. Sunny with a cool breeze. It’s even a bit chilly in some shady spots. My kind of summer weather.

I love bay scallops more than sea scallops. They are so much sweeter.
I also score my dogs. Charred is just fine with me. Howard’s is my topping of choice as well. I’m okay with brown mustard.
I suspect we might have tried the same thing if we had a gas stove. Electric stoves just didn’t lend themselves to dogs on a stick. I like the rocket ships.
It was the same here all day, and I loved feeling chilly. It is a perfect day!

Hot dogs aren’t really popular here, this is definitely a curry sausage region. I don’t even know how hot dogs are served here. Unfortunately we’re too far away from the next ocean to get fresh sea food.
It was a nice summer evening with live music again today, folk music summer Sunday park concerts in the town that Hedley mentioned yesterday where he saw a Champions League final. Music for free and biking (more than 35 miles this weekend to reach 3 locations), the second best way to spend the summer holidays besides traveling π

When I was a kid, Saturday night dinner was always hot dogs, baked beans and brown bread. My sister made it last night for dinner so the tradition continues. Our barbecues included hot dogs. At the baseball game at Fenway a hot dog is a necessary part of enjoying the game.They are a food group of their own here.
I like sausages, but I haven’t seen curry ones here. I’d probably like them too as I like curry.
You have such amazing concerts. Biking we have. The bike trail goes pretty much the length of the cape. I have ridden a few times from Dennis to Provincetown. They just opened two new bridges over roads so the trail can meet up.
Sunday night bands concerts are quite popular here. They are on village greens.
