“Fine, but if and when the zombies team up with the mummies to take over the world, you can’t live in my underground bunker.”

The air is damp and chilly. The day is so dark that Gracie’s lights came on when she was in the backyard. There is a constant breeze which sometimes blows hard enough to be a wind. It is not an inviting day. The birds sang earlier, but they are gone now. Everything is quiet. Gracie is in her crate sleeping. Maddie is standing under the table lamp getting warm. Her fur is hot to the touch. Animals know how to tbe comfortable.

I have to get more dog food so I’ll be going out later. Other than that, my dance card is empty. I did my laundry yesterday, a huge accomplishment for me as I usually leave it in the hall long enough for the dirty clothes to double in number. I do admit, though, that the clean clothes didn’t make it upstairs yet. They’re on a living room chair. They’ll go up today, maybe.

I fell asleep early last night. The TV and all the lights were left on until about 1:30 when I woke up. I then took Gracie out to pee. I couldn’t even see the house next door in the deep darkness.

Oops, my lights just went out for a minute, long enough that I have to reset appliances and my cable box has to reboot. It has also started raining. At first it was a mist, but it’s now a heavy rain. I can hear it against the windows, and I can see a sheet of rain falling off the eaves outside my den window. The day has become even less inviting.

Last night I made a divine supper sandwich. I toasted English muffins, slathered them with guacamole and then added tomatoes, bacon, and eggs. Every bite was delicious though a bit messy. I blame that on the eggs.

I wonder how much longer the zombie fad will last. It took a while for the undead to take over from vampires, but they did, big time. I’m figuring animals, as in The Zoo, are the next threat to humanity’s survival, but, if that doesn’t work, we can always go back to hostile aliens. They never go out of style.

The day started with rain and strong winds but the sun came out and dried things up and the even stronger wind helped. I decided today was the day to mow the lawn but I skipped the parts outside my garden, I can mow them tomorrow instead, it’ll take ten minutes or so.

I had to go and buy cat food this morning and I only came home with a few things I hadn’t planned to buy 🙂

I can’t say I’ve noticed much of the zombies, it seems that vampires still is the big thing here. I’ve never understood zombies to be honest but I do understand aliens 🙂 I watched Arrival yesterday and it was ok but not more. If I had been the least tired I would have slept through it I think 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
The rain stopped then began again with a vengeance. It has stopped again.

You sound like me. I go to the store for a couple of things and end up with two bags full.

IZombie is a great TV show. The main character is a zombie who eats the brains of victims of crime and becomes them for a while as she digests the brain.

      Enjoy the weekend!

That sandwich sounds fantastic. My fave is brie and bacon: although it doesn’t do a lot for my repeated vows to become more vegan.

The Zoo: do you mean the show with James Wolk, Kristen Connolly etc.? That was epically awful: I mean enough that it was actually epic.

      Alex,
I haven’t ever watched The Zoo, but I do know the premise. I am surprised how long it has been on given how bad it is.

I’d never turn down brie and bacon! I love a sandwich sold in a local spot. It is a panini with bacon, cheddar, tomatoes, avocado and horseradish sauce. Sublime!

Zoo really is dire! I assume in such cases – One Tree Hill, Charmed etc. – that a show keeps getting made because it’s incredibly cheap to make. But surely that can’t apply with Zoo? Maybe it’s the Patterson connection that keeps it getting made.

Oh, horseradish sauce, yum. Haven’t tried it with bacon before, but now I must!

      • katry Says:

        alex,
Usually I am tempted to watch programs like Zoo, but for some reason, I passed on it.

You will love the horseradish sauce with bacon. I buy Boarshead Horseradish sauce. I love it.

After the hottest day so far at 100 degrees, a cold front came down from the North and we had there were thunderstorms and rain last night and this morning. The temperature is now down to a comfortable 75 degrees and I think the rain has stopped.

Everything is better with bacon and or avocado. I just returned from a tour of our new Costco store. I have bought gas there since they opened earlier this month but today we took a walking tour of the entire store.

This is the first Costco store inside the city of Dallas. We used to shop at the one in West Plano near where we lived and now we have a store less than a mile and a half from our condo. How convenient? For those who don’t have a Costco near them, one of the best treats is to circulate around and try all the samples in the grocery and then have a hot dog for lunch before leaving the store. One sample they were offering today was thick cut premium bacon. I tried it several times before deciding not to buy it today which made a nice appetizer for the hot dog. 🙂 They sell a large all beef hot dog in the food court area with a large soda ioncluding unlimited refills for a $1.50. They have all the fixin’s including sour kraut. Where else can three people eat lunch for less than five dollars. 🙂

      Bob,
I turned on the inside AC then did my errand. Outside was stifling. I hated the short walk from the car to the store. I bought some ice cream.

There are no Cosco stores anywhere near me. I don’t even know where there are any in the rest of the state. The cape doesn’t even have a Walmart.

I’d love wandering and trying samples, and I do like hot dogs though not with sour kraut.

Costco is an upscale Sam’s Club that pay higher wages and offer their associates benefits. If you ever watch Shark Tank, Mr. Wonderful says they are the largest purveyor of wine in the country. The Waltons and Costco remade retail and now the grocery business is about to be upended with Amazon’s recent purchase of Whole Foods. If the FAA ever figures out how to regulate commercial drone operators, allowing them to operate a drone beyond the line of sight of the operator, Amazon will deliver your groceries to your door with a drone within minutes of you placing your order. To think Amazon started out with just books less than 20 years ago.

      • katry Says:

        Bob,
I have been in a Whole Foods but only once. I did like the amount of prepared food, but I wasn’t impressed enough to go back to Hyannis.

There isn’t a Sam’s Club here either. There is a BJ’s but that’s it. Cape towns tend to vote down the big stores or put obstacles like traffic flow in the way.

I do like the Amazon Prime overnight delivery but I’m not wild about drones.

    Hi Kat,
The zombie fad may be around for awhile now that we have Zombie Tick Disease to add to it. Powassan virus plus MMA (mammalian meat allergy). Bad news.

Today started out dreary and dull. It did not actually rain but it was so humid it felt like it had rained. I did an ice cream run up to West Boxford where it was hot, humid and sunny. I brought the hot and sunny back along with the ice cream. Now it’s even more uncomfortable outside. I’m staying in front of the AC.

That sandwich sounds wonderful. I have everything but the guac. 🙁 Maybe I can leave that part out or substitute something quad-like though I don’t know what that would be. I’ll let you know. 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
I read about the new tick disease. I also think I read there were two who had been bitten by ticks and diagnosed with the new disease.

I took the dog out in the morning and around noon. It was humid but not horrific. I went to do my errand around 3:30, and I was almost knocked over by the heat and humidity. It was the worst yet. I turned on the house air and am sitting here cooling down. Gracie is sleeping. She likes the cool house. She had a good night and ate again today. She even took a couple of toys out of her toy box. I’m glad she’s feeling better.

It really was the best sandwich. I bought a new kind of guacamole. It is made by a company named Hope. They also make Thai coconut curry hommos. The guac has chunks of quacamole in it, delicious.

      So what did you use?

      Have a great evening.

      • Caryn Says:

It turned out I only had blueberry english muffins and no other bread. I decided blueberry english muffins wouldn’t work for this and I didn’t want to go out again, either. So I ended up with chicken salad and pickles on rye Wasa bread crackers with a side of macaroni salad. It was tasty.

      • katry Says:

That sounds tasty. I often eat chicken salad, sometimes on crackers is I haven’t any bread. I sometimes add chopped jalapenos.

Neither zombies nor aliens today but Britons, Saxons, magicians, spirits, priests, valkyries, sirens, nymphs and more. I saw Henry Purcell’s semi-opera King Arthur today, a great concert and it was fun. Probably the 17th century theater equivalent to zombie and alien movies.

    • katry Says:

      Birgit,
You saw plenty today. I haven’t ever seen an opera or a semi-opera.

Around here are ghosts and witches. That does it for the spirit world.
