“May you live every day of your life.”
Today is the last of the warmth. Cold is coming tonight when it will be down to the 20’s. Luckily, though, the snow is gone, and the ground is far drier than it had been. The mud is back to dirt. It is time to wash the kitchen floor. It is filled with paw prints. I can’t remember when it was ever this dirty.
Gracie and I will be out and about today. I have a couple of stops to make. She would be disappointed if I didn’t take her.
My days lack structure. I read the papers and drink coffee in the morning, and that’s my only routine. Sometimes I make my bed but mostly I don’t. I eat when I’m hungry. Cereal and eggs are often lunch and even dinner, seldom breakfast. My fridge is filled with food easy to eat just as it is like tabouli, yesterday’s lunch. If I’m in the mood, I cook dinner. Chicken is a favorite. Mashed potatoes already cooked are generally my side of choice. I eat a vegetable if I have one. I buy salad in the bag and add things like dried cranberries. My bread is naan or pita bread for the hummus and tabouli. Around the middle of the month when my larder starts to get empty, I treat myself to take-out. My favorite place is Spinners where I can get Mexican, soup or pizza. I’m also a fan of Chinese food.
My bedtime is whenever I’m tired. It is usually after midnight, sometimes as late as two or three. I wake up whenever. This morning a phone call woke me at nine. I tried to go back to sleep but couldn’t. The phone call was a robocall. I made coffee.
I pretty much wear the same type clothes every day: pants, a shirt and, in winter, a sweatshirt. Seldom do I go anywhere which demands dressy clothes. That’s just fine with me. If I go out to eat, I skip the sweatshirt.
My life is uncomplicated. I really enjoy it that way.

I have gone mirrorless. Sitting on my table is a big box with a new Olympus camera ready to go. After 40 plus years I have abandoned Nikon and the SLRs are now a thing of my past. Tomorrow I will get it up and running and decide if I need an additional lens before our forthcoming trip back to the old country.
My days are very structured, I tire early and fall asleep in front of the TV – the counter is that I am wide awake at 4 am and generally messing around with an ipad or the radio.
Once again the weekend brings the National Football Team with Eric and his chums just two games away from the Superbowl. At 1 on Sunday we will be gathering in front of the TV to see if #72 can protect Alex Smith and get rid of the steelers.

My Dear Hedley,
I have been looking into getting a new camera, but I was thinking of staying with the Nikon because of the lenses I have. You convinced me to buy the Nikon so I’ll be interested in your reaction to the Olympus.
When I worked, I was in bed early as I was up at 5. If the paper was here, I’d read it. If not, I’d watch the early news. I was usually at work by 6:30.
The Patriots are also just two games away. I will be in front of the TV tomorrow night to watch the Pats demolish the Texans. Our hopes are high!

Hi Kat,
My morning: Feed the dogs, walk the dogs, sit down to read the digital paper while consuming iced coffee and english muffin. After that it’s open for whatever. Lunch is sometimes at lunchtime but more often it’s at suppertime. It’s nice not to have much structure anymore.
The only thing I require of myself now is to get dressed in publicly acceptable clothes most mornings. Otherwise I will hang around in my jammies all day. They’re fine for walking the dogs but not so good for more public activities. I added that rule when I saw that Rocky would run to the door whenever I put on jeans. Apparently, I wasn’t getting dressed in public clothes often enough when I first retired and he had learned to associate the donning of jeans with an excursion into the big wide world. Now both Piki Dog and Rocky run to the door whenever I close my laptop.
It was a lovely day up here. The sun was strong but the wind was chilly. We spent a lot of time outside even so. Back into the cold of winter tonight, I see.
Enjoy the evening.

Hi Caryn,
Gracie gets excited to go out when I switch from slippers to shoes. I wear flannel pants most of the day with my sweatshirt. I guess I prefer to be comfy when I’m home. When I go out, I do switch to my outside pants.
In Ghana, I ate breakfast every day as it came with the room. It was 2 eggs and toast with awful coffee. The eggs are cooked in peanut oil so they are delicious. At home, I think it is too much work too early.
It was also a good day here. Gracie and I enjoyed our ride to do errands. She likes my stops at Agway as I always have a few dog biscuits when I get back to the car.
Gracie is now on the couch beside me and snoring!
Have a great evening!!

Today was not that cold, a high around 50, but we have low ceilings with mist and drizzle. The temperature went from a high of 75F yesterday to 41F this morning. This roller coaster temperature ride has repeated itself several times since Christmas Day when the thermometer hit 80F.
Everyone has routine.because it is the clock that runs life. Circadian rhythm controls half the day or night and we decide how to fill the remainder of the day. My 19 year old son’s routine is 180 degrees from yours. He stays up all night and sleeps most of the day. The only difference is he’s not retired, just trying to find himself while living on my salary. 🙂

Bob,
We have reentered the cold zone. The warmth will be back in a couple of days. It has been a strange winter. 75˚ is July, late July.
I couldn’t waste the day. The winter is dark enough without missing the light.
I would think a 19-year old would be working or going to school. If he sleeps all day, he’s missing opportunities. Most of the world is also 180˚ from him.

As to the last sentance in my post: From your mouth to god’s ear. 🙂

Bob,
I hope he’s listening!!

The snow fell during the night here but it isn’t especially much thankfully, it is getting colder too but that doesn’t disturb me especially much, just the snow.
I don’t have a lot of struchtur during weekends when I’m at home either. The walks with the dogs is the only thing. I’m pretty sure though that if I won the lottery and could stop working I would drive to Falköping for some chineese take-out 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
Our snow is gone except for the smallest patch in the front garden. With the cold, it will be there a few days more.
I used to have weekend structure when I worked. I did laundry and went to the dump. When I taught, I planned lessons and corrected papers. I did go out or have friends over most Saturday nights.
If I won the lottery, I’d travel a lot.
Enjoy the day!!
