“A cold wind was blowing from the north, and it made the trees rustle like living things.”

When I woke up this morning, I was disappointed. Where was the rain? Where was the wind? All the forecasts last night had the storm starting Sunday night or early Monday morning. I was eager for rain, and who doesn’t like a mighty wind?

The weather changed in the last couple of hours. All we are missing is snow. It rained twice for a total of about five minutes, and in between the sun came out. The wind is getting stronger. The oak leaves are blowing and the tree branches are bending back and forth. The trunks of the pine trees are swaying. People are always drawn to the beaches during weather like this. The waves are as high as 6 feet. The energy from the wind and waves is palpable.

It took me only about ten minutes yesterday to ready the deck for the wind. I took the clay pots off the deck rail, took down the bird feeders hanging from hooks on branches and also took down candles hanging on hooks. I closed and fastened the umbrella. I’m hoping everything is safe from the wind.

Right now it is getting quite dark. I hope it means a rainstorm.

Today is a lazy day. My only chore is to bring the laundry from the cellar downstairs to my bedroom upstairs. The dump is closed today so trash will have to wait until tomorrow. I choose not to make my bed as I envision a nap in my future. Right now I’m watching TCM. The theme of the day is movies with devil or angel in the title. The Devil Makes Three just started. It is not a movie I have ever heard of before now. It stars Gene Kelly as an American serviceman in post-war Germany, specifically Munich. The description says he discovers a plot to revive the Nazi Party. I think it sounds like a perfect movie for a stay at home day.

When it comes to tropical storms or hurricanes one can’t be careful enough. It’s a good day to stay indoors and veg out. Here the sky is cloudy with a prediction of some rain. We are still enjoying lower than normal temperatures.

    Have a great Labor Day!

It is dark and getting chilly. I’m going to close the windows and doors. It is definitely a day to be cozy and warm at home.

Your day sounds great with lower than normal temperatures.

Have a wonderful Labor Day yourself.

Labor Day is the Mackinac Bridge Walk when some 50,000 set off across the five miles that is the Big Mac. Here in Rochester we have our own synthetic on the Paint Creek Trail was hundreds of us head north from our park in the general direction of Oakland Township. Free bananas, fudge, water and a waterproof cell phone holder were our rewards

This is the 11th annual and it’s all become a bit too much for Maggie the Westie who stayed home. But Mrs MDH and a chum and I marched along for about 90 minutes and then rewarded ourselves with a greasy breakfast at Leo’s. By 11:30 I was in the garden heading my perennials.

A sleepy afternoon is upon me. I am listening to the Steven Wilson remaster of Tull’s Aqualung and rather surprisingly I am enjoying it. I saw Ian Anderson a few years ago at Meadowbrook and was reduced to fits of giggles.

This week it’s Adele at the Palace – my chum called yesterday to announced we are covered for Wednesday night…but at what price….Hello it’s me….saw the show bought Mrs MDH the T shirt.

      My Dear Hedley,
There was supposed to be a road race here, but I don’t know if the weather allowed it. It is for a charity which I don’t remember. Here I am a font of information.

I understand about long walks being too much for Maggie the Westie. It is the same for Grace. She would love nothing better than a romp.

I took a nap and cuddled under the comforter as my room was chilly. Gracie and Fern joined me as they usually do. Gracie snores, a boxer thing.

I would have known it was just fine for you at any price. I’m so glad Mrs. MDH got a t-shirt.

Please send Gene Kelly over, his work isn’t done yet. Or any dancing zombie if it helps…

Freddy Mercury would have been 70 today.
Not his best song but weather appropriate:

This movie was made in 1952 or 3. Gene was looking for a family who had saved him from the Nazis. He found out the parents had died but their daughter was still alive. He figured she was 18. He found her working in a club charging GI’s to talk or dance with her. There are more plot lines but Gene fell in love with her and they kissed a few times. I just couldn’t help thinking she was only 18. I think he should keep dancing.

Another 70th birthday to celebrate today… that rascal Loudon Wainwright III. He’s been writing great songs and providing great social commentary for over 45 years now. His first album came out in 1970 and I don’t think he’s slowed down since. Here’s his latest:

I would have recognized his voice right away. It hasn’t changed in all these years.

      That was the scariest dream!I

I remember his wandering the 4077 on MASH singing and strumming his guitar. He gave a bit of background. I think it was the first season. I do have the songs on my external hard drive.

    Hi Kat,
I had a bunch of stuff planned for a rainy day today. No rain. It dawned cloudy and cool. The sun came out around noon and the wind picked up considerably. Now it’s mostly cloudy and windy but still too nice to hang inside. I’ll do the rainy day stuff tomorrow. It’s boring stuff anyway. 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
It has been raining on and off all afternoon. It is really chilly and damp. All my windows are closed.

I didn’t even bring my laundry up today. Fern, Gracie and I took a nap. It was a cuddle under the blanket sort of nap.
