“Sunday, the day for the language of leisure.”

It is a still morning. Not a leaf blows on the trees overhanging the deck. Not even a bird disturbs the silence. The day is cloudy and feels close. The humidity is higher than the last few days but still tolerable. My house is 74˚, not time for AC yet. Gracie likes the doors open so she can survey the neighborhood. The cats just sleep. That’s what cats do.

Last night I was awoken two times. The first was Fern meowing and looking for attention. She has figured out that waking me up means she gets her pats. I scratch her by the tail, pat her a few times then fall back to sleep. She is content and sleeps the rest of the night beside me. The second time was when my bed was shaking. I knew Gracie was panting. That meant she was uncomfortable and needed to go out. We went down stairs, and when I opened the door, she was out like a shot. She was back about 5 minutes later, and we both went back to bed. She fell asleep right away. It took me a whole lot longer.

My to do list is short today. I just have to water plants inside and out, but if truth be told, I don’t even feel like making that small effort. Sunday is a quiet day for me, a throwback from my childhood. When I worked, it was dump and laundry day. Now, I can’t imagine doing both of those in one day. The effort seems monumental. I went to the dump late yesterday afternoon with two weeks worth of trash. I have laundry I could do, but there is still laundry in the dryer from last week. I have embraced a lazy lifestyle.

Sunday was always a lazy day in our house when I was a kid. My dad did the yard work on Saturday and my mom cooked. In the summer Sunday afternoon was always spent at the public pool. Sunday evenings was my mother’s night off from cooking. We always went out for dinner usually either Chinese or Italian.

This Sunday we are suffering with poor AC. The condo got to around 85 degrees yesterday and today it might get even higher since we will be in triple digits later this afternoon. On the bright side some folks with AC problems are having to wait over a week to get any AC technictions to come out to their house.

      Bob,
We always had our big family dinner on Sunday. It was usually a roast of some kind. My favorite was a roast beef with mashed potatoes and peas on the side.

I remember lying on the rug in the living room and reading the funnies when I’d get home from church.

In the summer we sometimes went to the beach on Sundays but Saturday was more our usual day.

I can’t imagine triple digits here. We stay under Boston’s temps by sometimes as many as 10˚. No AC so far for me.

    Hi Kat,
Yesterday was do nothing productive day. I played with the dogs, fed them, walked them. I played computer games and read some book and Facebook. I did not cook. I may have watered the baby Japanese quince and changed the bird bath water but I might have done that the day before. Not sure. It was that kind of day.

Today was knitting with friends. Productive activity with lots of laughs and good conversation. Perfect Sunday but for the weather.
It was murky all day here. Sometimes the murk produced a trickle of rain but mostly it was mist and fog. The temperature was okay as long as one didn’t try to move about much. So I didn’t. 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
Yesterday I finally got to the dump. I had a trunkful of trash. I also went down the street to my friends’ house for burgers. I considered it a day well spent.

My do nothing productive day was today though I did water the plants.

We never got rain though the weather report said showers. It was cool in the morning but it is warmer and humid now. I’m going to have to put the bedroom AC on.

Gracie is sleeping in her crate while the cats are still sleeping in their favorite spots.

      Enjoy your evening!

  3. We had a rather nice day here, strong winds, two showers of rain and reasonable warm. During weekdays I always do teh laundry on Sundays but now on vacation time I do it whenever I feel like it.

I know the ground is really dry now but I really don’t want any rain. I water the potted plants and now it finally looks like the Passion fruits have buds, I’ve waited allsummer for that to happen. I can’t remember if it is the kind we buy as fruit or if it is a kind that only has beautiful flowers. If that one would give fruit it usually taste like crap 🙂 I once had a species of Passion fruit that had fantastic flowers but the fruit tasted like burned rubber smells 🙂 🙂

Only one week of vacation left now, time just flies by too fast!

    Have a great day!

    Christer.
