Changing of the Guard: Dylan
After I posted the Dylan the other day, a few of you mentioned your favorite Dylan songs. Cuidado said it was time for a Dylan fest. Here are the songs mentioned. If you feel left out, comment with yours. I’ll do another fest this weekend.

Yeah, Dylan fest 🙂
My favorite Dylan song is Blind Willie McTell (acoustic version, Bootleg Series Vol.3 ):

I remember when I first heard this song on the radio long ago, unfortunately missed the title and when I finally got a copy. Pre-internet times. Usually I recorded the weekly broadcast by my favorite radio DJ (who is from London btw), but this day I was at my friends home. I still love this song and it’s one of my favorite songs at all.
Too bad that I’m out of town and probably without internet connection this weekend, 3 days chorus rehearsals. Be sure that I’ll listen to all Dylan songs when I’m back home.

Birgit,
I’ll play that song for you as I have the Bootleg series, all 10 of them.
It is no matter that you’ll be gone. The song will always be there and the upload will be there a week. Any time you missed a song just write and let me know. I’ll be happy to send it along.

My Dear Hedley,
I can’t tell you when last I heard this song. Sensational indeed!

It is so different for Dylan, the saxophone breaks, the backing voices, the driving sound..never saw him do it live but boy do I like this song

MDH,
This could easily be among my favorites of his for all the reasons you mention!

This is one song that I place very specifically to time and place.
The snows have returned and my wanderlust is at warp speed. Orlando beckons with the Prince in April. Today we are on the plane with my Detroit Lions heading for Wembley stadium on October 26. Just go in for a few days, hit the Footie, drill a couple of Fullers and head for the stadium ….SUH !
Gentlemen, he said
I don’t need your organization, I’ve shined your shoes
I’ve moved your mountains and marked your cards
But Eden is burning, either brace yourself for elimination
Or else your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards

My Dear Hedley,
My bank account has put an abrupt halt to my fulfilling my wanderlust. The next year I will live an austere life and try to bank enough for another trip.
I will have to rely on my memories too.

It’s a shame you waited until January to have a Dylanfest. A month earlier and you could have treated us to selections from his Christmas album — one we all love so much and which showcases his talents so well 😉

im6,
I consider it extremely lucky that I happen to choose January. That is about the worst album, Christmas and otherwise. The fact he gave it away free is indicative of its quality.

Love the Dylan, as always. I don’t think I have a favorite but I like certain periods better than others. Even though many disagree with me, I like the Slow Train Coming album, pretty well wore it out. Thanks, Kat. You’re the best.

Cuidado,
I’m happy for all the choices. I get to hear Dylan songs I haven’t heard in a long while. This is fun!
