Although fewer of us remember Guy Lombardo his rendition of Auld Lang Syne, is the one that I remember from my youth. Every New Year’s Eve he and his band were headliners at the Empire room at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. I remember the black and white TV images of Guy and the band behind the dance floor filled with elegantly dressed couples wearing funny hats as confetti and balloons fell from the ceiling right after the ball had dropped in Times Square.
Bob,
That’s is exactly my memory-the classy, well-dressed dancers listening to Guy Lombardo.
When I was in the 6th grade, we made a Christmas album with Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians. It was during April vacation. We spent the whole day at the town hall making the album. I still have it in vinyl and cassette.
