“They said it was only a ground shark; but I was not wholly reassured. It is as bad to be eaten by a ground shark as by any other.”

Sometime during the early morning it must have rained. The sides of the street were wet when I went to get the papers. The day is still damp and cloudy, but I like it. Though humid, the air is cool. Tomorrow will also be cool but starting Monday it will be back to the closed windows and air conditioning. The prediction is for temperatures in the high 80’s.

My landscaper and I chatted today. He loves taking down trees and clearing yards. He said the side front lawn is being taken over. Just beyond it is an area left untouched and filled with trees though a row of day lilies separates it from the lawn. Sebastien pointed to branches hanging over the lawn. “Those need to go,” he said and smiled. I had to agree. Some are dead, and the rest drop leaves and pine needles on the lawn. Another branch from a side pine is also dead, and he’ll have that cut down as well. He gave me the bird’s nest, beautifully constructed and with branches hanging below it. There were pieces of plastic mixed into the construction, and I saw that frond I had left on the lawn intertwined with small branches. A few weeks back I thought I saw the parents and the baby so I checked later and the nest was empty. Now the forsythia can be trimmed.

I have one errand today then the rest of the day will be dedicated to reading and lolling about on the couch eating bon bons. I am not even going to make my bed. It will only get messed again tonight

Okay, I saw the worst science fiction movie ever the other night, one made by the syfy channel. It was Sharknado. Yup, sharks were swimming inside funnel clouds which had picked them out of the ocean and then dropped them into swimming pools, city aqua-ducts and on streets. No one was safe. The man scoffing our hero’s warning that sharks were in his pool got eaten. It served him right. I love watching the sharks swimming inside the funnel clouds, but my favorite part was at the end. Our heroine got swallowed, and our hero with a chain saw in hand got swallowed on purpose. The shark was lying on the sidewalk when all of a sudden you could hear the chain saw coming from the inside and then you could see the blade making a long slit in the side of the shark. Our hero cut a large enough hole to drag himself and our heroine out of the shark. All was well.

Got eaten so he could cut himself & girlfriend out?? Mein Gott!!!
No wonder you have rated it so low.
To believe something like that is even remotely possible would require a couple of quarts of Wild Turkey & a lobotomy. LOL!!

  2. Sheila Says:

Love the Sharknado! It even made the Good Morning America show. They loved it too. I asked Hubby what if that happened here. He wouldn’t even answer me. Got the raised eyebrow and I married-a-crazy-woman look. hahahaha

    • katry Says:

      Sheila,
It was about the worst I’ve ever seen, but I watched it until the end. I just couldn’t tear myself away. What if I missed something good? I wouldn’t have! hahaha

  3. Sheila Says:

P.S. I prefer Old Grand Dad, peterrocker 😉

  4. Caryn Says:

    Hi Kat,
I knew from the music choices that you must have seen that program. Gives the phrase “jumping the shark” a whole new depth of meaning.
I hope you got it on DVR so you can watch it again some Saturday when the available sci fi choices are not sufficiently cheesy. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Rocky and I went to the lake this morning. He was so excited he went into his Crazy 8 routine. He runs at top speed in a figure 8 pattern that gets bigger and wider with each pass. His ears are flying backwards and his tongue is blowing out sideways. Passersby were stopping to watch him and smiling and laughing.
It is funny but it’s difficult to get him to listen to me once he gets going.
He got his exercise, I guess. He’s sleeping it off on the couch now.

It’s cool up here and very grey. I’ll take it if my only choice is super hot.
    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
I jus couldn’t resist watching it. The title alone was bad enough, but then came the movie. It was really funny to see the sharks high in the air swimming in those funnels. Usually this would be a Saturday movie because that’s when syfy puts on their made for TV movies. I was surprised it was on a Friday.

This is a perfect day for Rocky to get his exercise, and I’m impressed with his figure 8 pattern. Gracie just runs the circumference of the yard. It has been too hot for the dogs to get enough exercise so today is a great day to take advantage of the cooler air.

I like today because I know I’ll hate Monday through Friday. I’ll be locked in my house again with the air running for all it’s worth!

      Have a great day!!

  5. Bob Says:

“Sharknado” should take the prize for the worst movie ever made. It should take down the all time leader of bad movies, “Plan Nine From Outer Space” by Ed Wood. All the 1950s science fiction flicks were just veiled attempts at exploiting our fears during the cold war. There were a few great movies set in that period such as, “Dr. Strangelove Or How I Stopped Worrying And Love The Bomb”, “The Mouse That Roared” and “The Russians Are Coming”.

Can you think of any other bad science fiction movies from that era?

    • katry Says:

      Bob,
I don’t know if it takes down Plan 9. At least this one had special effects. Plan 9 had ships on string you could see and shower curtains separating the cockpit from the seats.

Dr. Strangelove was actually from the mid-60’s as was The Russians Are coming. Both of these are great movies.

There’s The Thing with Two Heads, one of which was white (Ray Milland) and the other Black (Rosey Greer). You can only imagine how broad the shoulders were! It was made in the early 70’s.

      • Bob Says:

The Thing With Two Heads, would be right in vogue today with so many interracial couples 🙂

I guess Rosey Greer could tackle Ray Milland’s head if they got into a disagreement 🙂

      • katry Says:

        Bob,
I remember all they did was fight.

  6. olof1 Says:

I wish we could get those really bad movies too 🙂 All I can watch is the really bad Bollywood movies they show on channel Global 🙂 Some are actually really good if one excepts dancing and singing in the most odd moments 🙂 But some have been so bad that I just have been laughing 🙂

It would have been a nasty day here if we hadn’t had the breeze, very warm and high humidity. I managed to mow the lawn but that’s it 🙂 Tomorrow will be cold and rainy but it’ll change to warmer again on Monday. This is probably the best vacation I’ve had in years when it comes to the weather, it’s actually summer 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

    • katry Says:

      Christer,
I can take only so long of a Bollywood movie, but I can last through the worst scifi. When I was in Ghana the first time as a volunteer, I saw enough of the Bollywood films to last a life time.

I’m glad you’re having a summer. It is your vacation so do take some time to do nothing but enjoy yourself!!!!

  7. Coleen Burnett Says:

I will have to look out for a replay of this movie. I normally skip right past that channel, but you have peaked my interest…

Hot day here…ran errands this AM and am now enjoying the central air.

Brain candy….because sometimes you need it.

    Waving from Jersey,

    Coleen

    • katry Says:

      Coleen,
I suspect that sometime or another, syfy will repeat that movie. I’ve been a science fiction fan since I was a little kid, but that movie was something else-maybe even a weird nightmare.

      Brain candy-I like that idea.

Sorry for the heat but it’s coming this way too, and I’ll loll in the central air!

      Waving from lovely Cape Cod!

      Kat

    • im6 Says:

Sorry, you’ll have to wait an extra hour. Make that 7-9 pm (Eastern).

    • katry Says:

      im6,
You mean people missed it? I’m glad they’ll have an opportunity to see this blockbuster movie!!!

      • Birgit Says:

Yes, people missed that movie. And still miss it: “This video is not available in your country” 🙁
Two festival concerts instead without sharks. We left early, it’s too crowded now.

      • katry Says:

        Birgit,
it is actually on our cable On Demand. I haven’t ever seen that with such really bad movie before this one. I guess all the talk made syfy offer it again.

  9. Ilka Normile Says:

Sharknado is definitely the word of the moment. We will probably be jumping the sharknado soon.

    • katry Says:

      Ilka,
Having seen the movie, I know even inside isn’t safe! I’m thinking Kansas might be the safest place of all.

  10. Ilka Normile Says:

If you like wonderfully awful scifi films, the ultimate guide is still Micheal Weldon’s Psychotronic guide.

    • katry Says:

      Ilka,
Thanks so much for telling me about this. I looked it up on Amazon, and it is “just up my alley.” I’ve added it to my Amazon wish list!

  11. Lori Kossowsky Says:

Eating bon-bons and staying in bed is the way to go. I broke my little two last week, when a large book and my toe had a fight, and the book won. My toe, being a very bad little toe wanted one more round with an object and lost again. I feel silly complaining about my toe, after all the pain you have just been thru. I’ll have to look up Sharknado, it sounds horrid.
I didn’t realize that google catches my posts by my email name. I’ll have too be careful what I mumble…
    Waving,
    Lori and Crew

    • katry Says:

      Lori,
I think your pain is just as legitimate as mine. Broken toes re painful, and there isn’t much you can do-no cast or anything.

The movie is on again in July, and it is horrible!!

What des Google do with your posts? They don’t appear anywhere else as far as I know.

      Waving hello across the country!!

  12. Lori Kossowsky Says:

It shows if I type in my email addy what I’ve posted here. So when the FBI googles my addy they will see a lot of weird and strange things I’ve posted!
    Waving,
    You-know who

    • katry Says:

      Lori,
Where does it show your e-mail? I know the comment section asks, but no one can see it on the actual comment. The FBI would have to steal my password or my computer’s hard drive. Rest assured you are safe!!

  13. im6 Says:

Start the countdown, Coffee Clubbers, there’s a sequel in the works. http://news.yahoo.com/back-seconds-syfy-plans-sharknado-sequel-144227868.html

PS: reminder that the rerun is tomorrow, Thursday, 7/18 at 7pm Eastern on the Scfi channel.

    • katry Says:

OMG, how exciting-a sequel!!! As with the first, I will not miss this one either. I can’t help it. I am a sucker for bad scifi movies.

Thanks for the reminder, im6,-I’ll mention it tomorrow!!
