“When I was a kid, if a guy got killed in a western movie I always wondered who got his horse”
Indeed, I am quite late today because I picked up my new car. Yup, my new car, which is very much out of character for me. Generally I buy used cars and keep them around 10 years then trade the old one for another used one. This time I traded my 2010 which had been a used car for a 2012 and the cost, besides the sales tax and the registration, was the year of payments I had already made. I’m talking brand new car here, another red Camry. The ding from hitting the mailbox is now a faint memory and Gracie gets to dog fur the whole back seat again despite the cover. I have to program my radio stations and the bluetooth then I’m set. I’m thinking balloons and confetti!!
My flight from Washington to Accra has been cancelled. All of the flights from Washington to Accra have been cancelled as United eliminated the route as not financially worthwhile. They offered my agent a variety of alternate possibilities all of which had at least one stop. He refused all of them then went looking and booked me on Delta out of JFK. The difference is there is no first class on Delta so I’m going business elite (I think). The trip will be 24 days instead of 28 but that’s no big deal. I’m going coach from Boston to NY but first on the way back so he is trying to get first class both ways.
The day is beautiful and predictions are the weekend will be as well. It won’t be as warm here as in Boston but it will be in the 60’s so I’m not going to complain. I’ve already put away my shoes and am wearing sandals so I am acknowledging the cold weather is gone for good!
This afternoon I’m going to see The Avengers: yup, a matinee! I promise not to throw a single Ju-ju Bead at anyone in front of me though it might be hard to resist. Years of Saturday matinees have given me a good arm and a sharp eye. Too bad they are talents wasting away!

Congratulations to the new car 🙂 Must be great to smell that new car smell when You open the door 🙂 The youngest car I’ve ever bought was three years old and still had that smell, at least a day or two after that it smelled like my dogs 🙂 🙂 🙂
Isn’t business elite better than first class? I think I flew that once with Air France. I had bought this cheap ticket and had to take any place they gave me. That was the best flight I’ve ever flown 🙂 🙂 🙂
The staff didn’t know any other language than French but who cared, I was in heaven 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
Delta has only two classes: coach and business though it is business elite on some routes. You sit two across instead of 3, and the service is better than in coach. On the first class on United, you had no one beside you and you even got a seat which turned into a bed. This new ticket isn’t as good as first but I didn’t have a choice.
You enjoy your evening!

Hi Kat,
Just catching up after a busy two days of appointments.
New car! Whoo-hoo! Congratulations.
I’ve been wearing sandals for months now. They were the only shoes I had that didn’t hurt my toes except for my winter sneakers which were way too hot. I have since found a pair of New Balance walkers that are very comfortable for those long dog walks around the lake. Right. 🙂
It’s not much warmer up here than where you are but it’s sunny and lovely and I will take it.
Enjoy your day.

Caryn,
I doubt even my neighbors will notice it isn’t the same car though the insides are tan, not gray, and and the car’s lines are different.
I used to wear sandals most of the winter, but I got older and now my feet get cold and then I stay cold. I have sneakers but don’t remember what kind.
It got to about 64° today but it was lovely.

The only thing better than a new car is making love for the first time. I am driving a 2000 Accord Coupe that I bought new and don’t plan on getting rid of it any time soon. Unfortunately, I can’t remember how the new car felt nor anything about that other first time.
The only time I ever flew in business class was when American gave me a free upgrade on a flight from DFW to London Heathrow. I had the pod that makes into a bed, real food, free drinks, Bose noise canceling headsets and a VIP pass to get through British border service through the short line. Even the flight attendants were nicer. American Airlines has some of the oldest flight attendants on their international routes. They have been described as either flying grandmas or flying hags depending which class you are flying.
Today the temperature is up to 90 degrees without a sign of clouds or rain.

Bob,
A new car has a far longer shelf life!
Most of the time I keep my cars 10 years or so, but I couldn’t resisit a new one as mine are usually used. I suspect they’ll do well selling my car as it has little mileage.
The United first class I flew last summer from Ghana home was wonderful with the bed pod, perfect service, a wide choice of movies and great food and drinks. I flew first on Lufthansa and it too was great. I’m not sure about this business elite of Delta’s.
We stayed under 65°, typical for this time of year.

Hooray for your new car! I too, am in the market, as my 1992 Chevy Lumina’s tranny finally gave out…I am bumming rides for the moment and contemplating my options.
I hope it has a great stereo system…

Hi Coleen,
It has a great stereo system, and I love the hands free phone conversation. I always buy Toyotas from the same place, and they do treat me well.
The car smells so new!!

Carl,
Also a good question. Perhaps it’s the winner take all!
