Sisters of Mercy: Leonard Cohen

This is from Leonard Cohen’s first album called Songs of Leonard Cohen. I wore out my vinyl copy of this album. Leonard is now 77. I figure he’s due for a day on Coffee.

Its Leonard Tuesday at KTCC, what an honor, its like winning a Grammy or something.

What the heck is the song about anyways ? Nuns or something

I read the lyrics and have got nothing except that maybe Leonard should have bought a square cased Omega watch

I know lots of people that say they don’t like Cohen’s music- or don’t know of it until I mention hallelujah from the movie shrek. Then they say they love the song. Everytime I turn around someone else was covering it.
love his old stuff- his new stuff and a almost 3 hour concert on his recent tour was a “religious experience”. Agreed- he may not have the greatest voice- but his songs are amazing. We all came away without bandages on our wrists- we had already gone to heaven!

      Pat,
You’re so right; I bet many people don’t realize Leonard wrote Hallelujah. That is one of my favorites of his almost no matter who sings it.

I also love his old stuff. and he writes songs which have the most wonderful language and are filled with amazing images.

I guess I’ll risk those bandages too!

I’ve always loved Cohen and his music. In the 70s I saw him in NYC, at a place called the Bottom Line–http://1heckofaguy.com/2011/07/26/leonard-cohen-plays-the-bottom-line-1974-judy-collins-janis-ian-visit/
He had 3 women singers as back-up whom he referred to as the “sisters of mercy”. I love Pat’s comment, and I must admit that I giggle at “music to slit your wrists by”.
Waving ( with one slit wrist),
    Lori

      Lori,
I am not a fan of some of his later albums, but I do like this one.

That’s a wonderful picture. They all look so young. I think Leonard has aged the best of all!
