“Nothing irritates me more than chronic laziness in others. Mind you, it’s only mental sloth I object to. Physical sloth can be heavenly.”
Last night’s dusting of snow barely covered the backyard. Under the trees had no snow at all. Now it is melting and all I hear are drops from the roof. When I went to get the papers, I saw paw prints on the driveway. I wondered about them. Might the coyote be back or was it Cody, Gracie’s friend, walking to the school bus stop with her family?
The birds are swaying and spinning with the feeders, and they remind me of a carnival ride, the sort which always made me sick. I filled the feeders yesterday in case we get snow tomorrow. I’m not ready for snow, even the paltry 3 to 5 inches predicted. It may turn to rain, and I’m holding on to that. This winter has spoiled me.
I need new slippers. These are too well-worn. My feet get cold unless I wear socks. I remember never being cold. At night I used to put the temperature down to 58° and it was never higher than 66° when I was awake. Partly for the animals and partly for me, the night is now left at 62°. Even then Gracie tries to steal the covers and Fern huddles or sleeps on my hip. I hate that but mostly I’m asleep and don’t notice. My heat is programmed up to 65° at 7 then up to 68° at 8:30. I tend to sleep late so the house is warm when I wake up. Yesterday I had a fire going all afternoon. I sat in the living room with my book and my laptop, but mostly I watched the fire burn. It was mesmerizing. It was also one of the best fires I’ve made. My father would have called it a Hollywood fire, like the ones in the movies, because it burned so evenly and so long. The house smelled wonderful.
I haven’t been out much this week. My house has been the hub of activity though activity may be just a bit too strong a word. I did clean two rooms, change the litter boxes and my bed and folded and brought upstairs the wash that had been in the dryer since last week so maybe activity works even though I usually think whirlwind and activity go together. Maybe I’ve just lowered my expectations. Since folding the wash, I haven’t done anything. I guess I’m considering my current state of sloth a reward for such exertion.

It seems winter has come to stay here now, at least for a week or so. Tomorrow evening we’ll get up to 6 inches of snow and I don’t like it at all 🙂 But it is sort of time for it to arrfive now I’m afraid.
All dogs and cats, except for Nova, hate it when it gets warm here 🙂 It’s only Nova and I that likes it warm when we fall asleep. The radiators are put rather cold so it is usually a bit chilly when I wake up.
I need new slippers too, the ones I have is worn out and I’ve slipped on the stairs a couple of times. I didn’t hurt myself especially much but I woke up and I didn’t like thatv at all 🙂 🙂 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
I think you’re right about winter finally settling in to stay. We have a snow advisory for tomorrow. We are a bit warmer than off cape so we may have a rain/snow mix which can be dangerous if it freezes.
Gracie doesn’t like it too warm in the summer. She loves the air conditioner inside and the shade outside.
I am usually the one slipping and falling so you be careful. I’m going to shop later for new ones.

Hi Kat,
Yesterday was kind of a lazy day. Rocky went to the groomer and I did some grocery shopping. Bleh. Then we went to the lake for a minute because it was really cold and I couldn’t take it. Wednesday I was a bit more industrious. Painted a wall, cleaned a surface and did a load of laundry. Today is a completely lazy day. I’ve done nothing except fool around on the computer and maybe knit a few rows on something. And that’s how I like it. 🙂
Have a great day.

Hi Caryn,
I hate to grocery shop too and only go when the cats need food. The dog food comes from Agway, and I never mind going there.
I had one day of industry, and that’s enough. Right now the rest of the house is being cleaned. Roseana and Lee come every two weeks, but I do the shelves and stuff as I’d have to pay them hundreds if they did. I do have to polish the bookcase in the living room, but I’m saving that for another day, and I have a laundry to do. Maybe tomorrow if I am snow bound.
I believe that you day is the best of all days!
Enjoy!!

The two feral kittens showed up at the breakfast club this morning so my grocery list just went up. The one we named Pooh Bear looks like a bear with a heavy long haired brown coat, adorable face. The other one is black and not steady on the paws yet. But I dragged the cat tree back from the garage and they played all day so I guess you could say they found a home. I was wondering when the Mom was going to allow the kittens to roam. It was a joyous day.

Z&Me,
I am so glad they came back. I know you were probably worried after not seeing them. They sound adorable. Nothing is cuter than a kitten. How neat they played all day on the cat tree. Any pictures?

My Dear Hedley,
Gracie gets the most attention so I doubt she’ll notice this small comment. Right now she is sprawled on the couch snoring away. Not a cat in sight.
