I love this song, and this singer so much! Such a gentle, peaceful feel. Much like some of Donovan, I think.

      Nan,
I did find a reference to Donovan when I was looking up more about Vashti,
“She bought a horse and cart and set off in 1968 with her boyfriend for the dream of a creative colony that the singer Donovan was setting up on the Isle of Skye. It took nearly two long years to get there, by which time Donovan had left, but the experience formed the songs for ‘Just Another Diamond Day’, the album recorded by Joe Boyd (featuring members of The Incredible String Band and Fairport Convention) in November ‘69, during a trip back to London.”

Read sblake below as he fills us in on her now.

Lovely to hear Vashti.Diamond Day is from the album that was more or less lost on its release. In the mid to late 1960s, Bunyan was under contract to Andrew Oldham, which saw her release two singles. However, Bunyan found the experience frustrating, and decided to head for the Scottish islands in search of an artistic commune supposedly established by Donovan. She travelled around the countryside with her partner Robert in a horse-drawn wagon. It was during these travels that she wrote the songs which would later appear on Just Another Diamond Day.

In 2006 “diamond day” was used in a phone company ad in the UK and the many followers (for many years) saw Vashti come out of retirement and has released two more albums.I saw her here in Oz a couple of years ago.She is very shy and retiring but still sounds as lovely today as she was then.

      sblake,
Thank you for the video-you’re right: her voice is still so lovely, and I love the lyrics.

I’m sorry there was such a disconnect in time between her earlier music and her new albums. What a lot of beautiful music we have missed.
