I remember Howdy Doody, when it was a local TV show in New York before it was sent out over the network. This was around 1950? It came on the air daily at 5:30 in the afternoon. Thanks for this later memory.

Howdy Doody started in 1947 and lasted to 1960. I also remember watching it on Saturday mornings. I found out many years later that Clarabell didn’t talk as they would have had to pay him more. I loved all the other characters. I even watched the last show when Clarabell finally spoke, “Good-bye, kids.”

Bob Keeshan was the first Clarabell. He left the role in 1952 so the final show was someone else as Clarabell.
