That hit record but did it derail the career of Melanie? Candles in the rain, lay down , appearances at Woodstock and the Isle of Wight….a Joni trajectory perhaps until this whole roller skating thingy blew it all up.
Melanie was a Jersey girl, and lived quite close. Sometimes she would visit my aunt. I didn’t know this song was banned for sexual innuendo and radio stations wouldn’t play it. I’d love to here you play it on the uke.
I was sad to see she died a few months ago at a rather young age.
Another wonderful post,
Lori

MDH,
I never gave it a thought, but I do agree with you.
I learned this song for my uke. It was then I gave thought to the weird lyrics.

Thanks, Lori
This song always reminded me of so many double entendre songs, many in the 30’s. That was the only way to get them passed the censors.
This was part of our last month’s music. It was fun to play.
She was 76 when she died.
