“No. We haven’t seen the end of them. We’ve only had a close view of the beginning of what may be the end of us.”
Today will be in the 70’s. Tomorrow will be a quick return to fall with rain and a temperature in the 50’s which is about right for this time of year. My sister in Colorado is already a season ahead of us. She has welcomed, says I with tongue in cheek, winter with a temperature in the bottom of the 30’s and with snow expected.
Yesterday I heard a beeping, three short beeps over and over. I went hunting for the source so I went down cellar where I found no beeper but I found water, so much water. The cellar is flooded on one side, and the water is starting to move to the other side. I checked my water heater as that has to be the source of the water. It is all rusted on the bottom. I wrote a message on Facebook to Kevin Sullivan, one of my favorite former students, who is the president of Ready Rooter. Someone is coming today. I just hope they find the source of that beeping. It is driving me insane. I expect I’ll be down the cellar for days sweeping out the water and drying that side. The sloth in me is screaming in horror.
When I lived in Ghana, I had a stove and a refrigerator. I seldom used the stove as it needed gas which my town didn’t have. I had to go 100 miles each way to fill the canister. My refrigerator always worked. I used to put my meat from the market in the freezer. Sometimes it turned green anyway. I also kept water bottles in the freezer. Nothing was better on a hot dry season day than the coldest water. I had no water heater. I always had to take a cold water shower except for the start of my shower when the still water in the pipe had been warmed by the sun. I learned to take really quick showers but I was always refreshed anyway.
I haven’t been to a movie theater in forever, sorry for the hyperbole but it just seems that way; however, I have watched many movies on TV. This week I watched mostly black and white movies. I even watched Godzilla, the original. Rodan is next. It has been like a trip to my childhood where every Saturday I used to watch Creature Double Feature. One of my all time favorites is Them. I can’t remember how many times I have seen it, but I know it is plenty as I can say some of the dialogue along with the characters. I shout Them with the little girl, the survivor, in the same horrific voice. I think I’m believable.

Hi Kat,
Today we have had a lot of rain most of the day and much cooler temperatures. The high temperature today might reach 66°. Luckily, Globe Life Field has a retractable roof so the second game of the World Series will be played regardless of the weather. Go Rangers!
So far my water heater is still in good condition. My water heater is located next to the garage and there’s a pan under it which will drain any water into the garage should it leak. Of course, the garage floor is flat and the water might still back into the rest of the first floor.
My wife took my daughter to the movie theater to see the filmed Taylor Swift concert last Saturday night. They enjoyed it. Even though we have a movie room, with a projector and a screen that covers an entire wall, we sometimes take my daughter out to the movies on weekends.
I think that the second scariest movie I ever saw as a kid was, “Them”. The first was the 1954 version of, “War of the Worlds”. Godzilla was so ridiculous of a movie it didn’t give me nightmares. We just watched the stupidest Halloween movie on Netflix, “Vampires in the Bronx”. Everything was bad, the plot, the acting, the sets, the music, everything. 🙁

Hi Bob,
Tomorrow will be cold and rainy, such a change from this week’s return of summer. Today was a beauty of a day. It just seems so strange for me to watch the game and not see my Red Sox. I’ll keep checking back. Right now it is 2-0.
My water heater is 14 years old. I could feel the rust on the bottom. The guy said the leak was in the back. He drained it and will return on Monday to put in the new one. I hate with essential appliances decide to bite the dust.
I loved to show movies outside on Saturday nights. You get to pause for bathroom breaks, eat wonderful food , chitchat and pause the film for bathroom breaks. I figure seeing the Taylor Swift concert at the theater made it a bit special.
I love THEM when I was a kid. I still watch it now. I also liked War of the Worlds. I thought the aliens were great looking. The Japanese made Godzilla, the monster awakened by nuclear radiation, as a reaction to the WWII a-bombs. The 1954 original was a man wearing a latex suit. Later versions used CGI. I guess you have to watch the film through the lens of 1954.

Yes, you and I have suffered through many, many years of baseball championship drought. Mine was only 51 years while the curse of the bambino lasted much longer.
I had to look up the title of the movie, “Them”, and then I realized that wasn’t the movie that gave me nightmares. It was some other old science fiction movie from the 1950s. It’s 2 to 1 in the bottom of the sixth.

It isn’t looking good for the Rangers. They need another Hail Mary walk off.
If you get a chance, watch THEM. It is one of the best.
