I wonder how much Heinz paid for this song. For many years they held the trademark rights to the word Ketchup. Other manufacturers had to call their products, Catsup.

Stompin’ Tom Connors wrote this song, but with no incentive from Heinz. After he wrote the song, he offered it to Heinz, and they declined.
Ketchup is one of the most popular condiments in Canada so I’m guessing that was the incentive he needed.
