Katy Lied had the impossible “task” of following the sublime “Pretzel Logic” . The sound was moving quickly from a band to session musicians and it showed. Very pleasant to listen to but not of the gob smacking moments of its predecessor
But if a new Steely Dan came out I was waiting for the record store to open and this was no exception. I don’t play them much anymore. I saw Donald Fagen right before the pandemic when he was masquerading as Steely Dan even though Becker was gone. Nothing like the great Steely Dan jazz shows of years gone by
I did the same, binged on a band or a singer, bought everything. Over time many of my favorites disbanded and their musicians moved to other groups. I didn’t play them much anymore either. Every now and then I pull out my old vinyls from long ago and listen. I’m usually happy I did. The absence of listening made them sound so wonderful again.
I did not know this song. I do like finding videos of actual performances.
When I lived in Ghana, the Hotel d’Bull showed movies in the courtyard. Some were really old westerns but many were Indian. I hadn’t ever seen one before. They were hysterically funny with actors singing everywhere, even the shower.

My Dear Hedley,

Katy Lied might be my favorite album of theirs.
The film clip this is paired with is hilarious. Looks like ’60s Indian cinema.
