Really an interesting one Kat, I know the names but literally nothing about them. Seems they are both in their 80s and wandering around Canada in their own space. I especially like that Ian is known as the self anointed “The Legend Ian Tyson”. I guess at 88 he is entitled.
Lovely pick and no The Legend MDH has not seem them in concert , own any of their music or have ridiculous anecdote about them
I have been an Ian and Sylvia fan since the 60’s. When I was in training in Ghana, my friend Ralph had bought a guitar and we’d sing along with him at night. He got tired of me asking for Four Strong Winds and Someday Soon, my Ian and Sylvia favorites at the time.
I am open mouth floored at the Legend MDH. You were into rock and roll, blues and so much more. I was and still am a folk music fan which is why I know them. After they broke up, he began to sing country music and dub himself The Legend! I think many Canadians would agree.
Thanks Kat
Ian & Sylvia were one of my favorites. Have most of their LPSs, up thru “Great Speckled Bird” band. “Four Strong Winds” is a Canadian foundation song. After they split a a duo, each went on contributing to (Canadian) music. They are both still performing, I believe.
You might enjoy Tyson with Corb Lund, a contemporary Canadian C&W/prairie singer songwriter;
J,
You are quite welcome, but this is self-serving. I have been a fan since the 60’s. My friend Ralph would attest to that. I kept asking him play their music on his guitar during Peace Corps training. I drove him crazy.
I know Ian sang country after their break-up. I haven’t heard much about Sylvia. I’ll have to look her up.
