Today, is the first time that we celebrate Juneteenth as a national holiday. This country was founded on the ideas of freedom and denies it, even today, to it’s black, Hispanic and religious minorities. We’ve made progress in my lifetime in civil rights but the job of true equality is not finished. Thanks for this song to remind us all that true freedom doesn’t include everyone and there are forces who wish to reverse the progress we’ve made.
I know many states have celebrated this day since 1866. It was just slow to become a national holiday.
Freedom is never free.
It is appalling that so many people deny BLM and contend it should be all lives. I find that remarkable as most of us have never been afraid to walk streets or be confronted by police.
