“After all, it wasn’t every day that someone got adopted by a dog.”

Check yesterday’s weather. It is the same today. The rain doesn’t stop. It is only 49˚ and won’t get much higher. The wind is far lighter than yesterday’s. I am staying home again today. It is the driest spot I know.

Big news here! My family has an addition. Nala joined us yesterday. She is a one year old boxer. Nala is fawn but has interesting coloring. She has a black tail and a bit of black across her back. She has all the energy of a one year old. Lala lived with my cousin Mitch and his wife Kelly. They are boxer lovers from way back. Besides Nala, they had another boxer, an almost three year old female. The two of them started fighting with Nala being the aggressor. She got the worst of the deal each time and yesterday had to go to the vets. When Kelly brought Nala home from the vets, she went after the other dog again. Mitch and Kelly’s baby grandson and his parents live with them so they wanted to protect the baby just in case. Mitch called me shortly after that knowing I am a boxer lover. Both Kelly and Mitch were devastated. Poor Kelly was crying, and I knew exactly why. Losing a dog in any way is so very heartbreaking. Lovers of dogs know that all too well.

Nala checked everything out room by room, got hissed at by Jack and Henry bared his teeth once. It was a warning. Nala follows Henry everywhere. She eats his bones and sleeps on his side of the couch. I keep moving her to the other side. Last night one dog was on each side of me sleeping while I watched TV. Going to bed took a while. Henry would jump on the bed then Nala would jump on then Henry would get off and Nala would follow. Finally I told both of them to work it out and I turned off the light. I woke up at 5:30, and the two of them were sleeping beside each other. I took them out and back and then went to sleep. When I woke up, Nala was beside me resting her head on my arm. Henry was sleeping at the bottom of the bed. When I got downstairs, I found she had peed and pooped on the dining room floor. I had taken her out before bed and at 5:30, but I didn’t watch her outside. Now, the three of us will go out together.

Today I’ll keep an eye on both dogs and hope Nala will find outside a better bathroom, lots more choices. Right now is nap time on the couch. I may join them.

I’m holding my thumbs so that they like each other! It usually works out well if hey are different sexes so I’m pretty sure ithey soon will see each other as family 🙂

She’s new so accidents will happen until she has figured out when You get up in the morning and to bed in the evening.

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
Henry is being spectacular. He was playing with Nala on the deck, and they ran with each other in the yard. I think this will work out just fine.

My cousin said to tell her to do her business. I’m going to try that when next we go out. I figured the same about her accidents.

      Enjoy your week.

    Hi Kat,
I read that you got another dog on Christer’s blog. Great! I hope they come to an entente very quickly.
Owning two dogs, I’ve learned that I need to watch to be sure both have done all the business they should do when they go outside. Terriers get distracted so easily and forget why they’re out there. I’m always telling them to focus.
The weather up here is just as crappy. Instacart did shopping for me today and the driver had her winter coat on. I said she was smart for not putting her winter clothes away as I have done. We laughed.
    Enjoy your new friend.

      Hi Caryn,
Henry is being spectacular. I am making sure he doesn’t get jealous. That seems to be working. A while back they were playing together on the deck.

Nala gets distracted outside by Henry. She follows him around even while he’s peeing and I think she forgets to go herself. I went with them this morning. I don’t think she went, the same with the afternoon.

I go out and keep getting wet. Neither of these minds the rain much. They go out easily. Henry ran in the yard and Nala ran after him, even in the rain.

      It is cold!

Enjoy the rest of this weekend.

    Hi Nala,
what a nice surprise that you are part of this lovely mixed family now!
I hope you get along well with all of them and you can settle in without problems. ( I think they probably don’t like biting and aggressive fighting.) Please tell Kat (the nice lady with the dog food) that I would love to read about you and your progress. Oh, you can’t talk, no problem, she usually sits at the computer around noon and a soft gentle bark eastwards may remind her 🙂
Greetings from someone who lives over the big pond where the sun shines and the weather is currently just perfect.
PS: Maybe we get a photo of you some day?

It is a pleasure to meet you, Birgit. I am already enjoying constant patting and a variety of treats. I am enjoying meeting my big brother Henry who has been quite kind to me. He even played with me a little. I did try to eat his dinner which didn’t make him too happy.

I’ll make sure you hear all about my life. Pictures are coming.

Over this side of the pond I keep getting wet every time ZI go outside.

    Hi Kat,

Congratulations on your new family member. I know that you are really a boxer-haulic. I enjoy having dogs but we decided to enjoy them from a distance. Our backyard has no grass at all and having to walk a dog daily doesn’t seem well suited for us at this time of our lives. I have all the companionship and excitement I can take with my 27;year old daughter and 24 year old son still living with us. 🙁

Today was mostly cloudy with a high of only 75° without a drop of rain. Who knows what the weatherman has in store for us tomorrow. Probably all the rain we didn’t get over the weekend. Usually, Memorial Day weekend the temperature is well into the nineties with a blazing hot sun. Friends of ours moved to Gilbert Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix a couple of years ago. Last summer it was so hot that they couldn’t use the pool because the water was so hot. People there buy and throw bag fulls of ice into their swimming pools so that they can cool off the water to swim. 🙂

I just blame everything weather wise on global warming. It’s a great catch all for weird weather. 🙂

      Hi Bob,
Thank you! The behavior vet Henry saw recommended a second dog, a female. Henry has been wonderful with Nala. He is teaching her where she stands in the hierarchy. I have a huge backyard which is still wild. My dogs love running in that yard. They also do their business there.

It rained all day today and will rain tomorrow. What a bust for a long weekend. I haven’t left the house.

My heat went on last night as it was so cold, a long way from the 90’s. I would hate to live in all that heat. I’m just fine here. Snow is a small price to pay for a wonderful summer.

  5. Rowen Says:

Great news! I’m excited for you.

    • katry Says:

      Thanks, Rowen
Right now Henry is sleeping on the left side of the couch and Nala has the right. I’m stuck in the middle of two sleeping dogs, one of whom snores.

      • Caryn Says:

Welcome to how couch life is going to be going forward. I am immediately bracketed by dogs as soon as I sit down. If I’m not stern enough, they will both be on my lap on top of whatever it is I’m trying to do. Very nice in winter when it’s cold.

      • katry Says:

        Thanks, Caryn!

I am back in the middle. Henry has his regular spot and Nala has settled for the other side. They are both sleeping. I suspect they are tired or at least Henry is. He ran the yard, and she followed. They played together on the deck. I was excited and happy. The cats, though, are a different story.

        Life is getting more interesting.

  6. T Says:

Wonderful, Kat!! They will play and chase. And chase and play for the rest of their lives. And you get to sit in the middle. At the end of the day. And love on ’em.

    • katry Says:

      T,
They have already started playing though Nala is a bit rambunctious and tends to jump on Henry. He is quite patient. I think this is the best thing for Henry.

      • Tracey Says:

        Yes it is.
        And Nala too.
She gets to be ms. Bossy pants.
        Up to a point.
        The cats will survive!

      • katry Says:

        Tracey,
The cats are getting braver though Nala chases Jack still. Henry is loving having a pal to run and play with especially in the yard. I am still adjusting to two dogs.
