Chelsea Morning: Joni Mitchell
This is one of my all time favorite songs, maybe even my favorite. When I listen, this song always takes me back to Ghana and my second year in Bolga. My friends, Bill and Peg, and I lived in a duplex. We got together every night for dinner. After dinner and after Kevin, my friends’ baby, was asleep, we’d get together for music and for games. I had the Clouds album, and we played it just about every night. I can close my eyes and see my living room, my three red cushioned chairs, the table in the middle and a bookcase on the big wall. Some nights we moved to Bill and Peg’s side. Their side was a mirror image of mine, but I think they had blue cushions. The music came with me. We played word games, ones whose pieces were only paper and pen. We listened to Joni, to Peter, Paul and Mary, CSN&Y, Simon and Garfunkel, maybe The Beatles but I’m not sure, and a couple of music tapes my sister sent me. Our evenings were always fun, filled with laughs and good humor. They were memorable.
