“Oh, my sweet Saturday, I have been waiting for you for six long days.”

The morning is mostly cloudy, but the sun is just waiting its turn. It will even get as high as 60˚. Yesterday my iPad fell out of my hands and went down the stairs a single step at a time, bang, bang, bang. I was horrified. I screamed and ran after it. The cover is cracked but it works fine. I looked on-line and found a place in Hyannis to have the cover replaced. It is now on my to-do list. I went to the dump yesterday. At one convergence there are lights for all four roads. I turned to wait in the right lane. When the light changed, I went right on the arrow and got honked at a couple of times. I had no idea where the car came from as the only cars moving at that green light went right, left or forward. He had to have jumped the light on the other side. That car then seemed to follow mine. We went left together then right then right again. We both turned left. I decided to drive to the police station, but the car turned right while I went straight ahead. That car spooked me. I wished Henry was with me. This morning I had no newspapers. I hate the start of today. Did I mention a cheeky chipmunk was in the no squirrel feeder?

When I was a kid, my father always started his day with coffee and the newspaper. My mother didn’t like coffee, and I don’t remember if she read the paper or not. They are my father’s mornings which are clearer in my memory. I can see him at the kitchen table, coffee cup to the right, ashtray beside the cup and the newspaper opened in front of him on the table. He always sat with his back to the rest of the kitchen. After his retirement and when the mornings were warm, he’d sit on the front step with his coffee and he’d read the newspaper. Cars honked and my father always waved. He became the neighborhood icon.

I don’t know what I’m going to do with today. It being a Saturday carries responsibilities. When I was a kid, it was the best day of the week. I got to eat cereal in front of the TV. I could go to the movies on a winter Saturday afternoon or hike around town or ride my bike hither and yon. I could read the day away if was rainy or cold. Saturday was all mine.

I’ve been retired almost 17 years. I’ve come to view every day as Saturday, and I have the same sense of property I had when I was a kid. Every day is all mine to do what I will. Wow!

    Hi Kat,

Wow! you’re very lucky with both your iPad and your car. If your iPad cover can’t be fixed they are not too expensive to replace. The screens are not cheap but the covers are reasonable. I couldn’t live without my iPad. My entire life is stored on that wonderful device. Thank you Steve Jobs wherever you are.

I’m always amazed by how recklessly other people drive. Jumping traffic lights, speeding and just plain stupid driving. Sates should require a mental examination before issuing a driver’s license. 🙂

Today, I slept very late and must have been very tired. I got up at 10:30. Today is, using your term, a slough day. My spouse went to Lowe’s to get a hose for the front outside faucet and she wants to wash the the cars. My son won’t let her go to the car wash, because he’s afraid that no one will be wearing masks and she might bring home Covid-19. He received his second dose last Tuesday and he’s worried about getting exposed during the ten day period until he is 100% covered. This past year staying home has made him a little paranoid. 🙁

My father always read the newspaper on the weekends in the toilet. He would sit on the throne, smoke cigarettes and read. I think it was the one place in the house where he could get 100% privacy. Or, maybe he needed to eat more fiber.

      Hi Bob,
I think I meant the screen, not the cover. I priced it and saw it is around $230.00. I’ll pay it as I also can’t imagine my day without my iPad. If you could have heard my scream!!

The joke around here, which isn’t really a joke but rather aggravation, is that most of those cars are from off Cape. It will get horrific this summer as so many places have no vacancies. It is looking like the best summer for motels and restaurants in a few years, even before Covid.

I have friends who were and are paranoid. One didn’t go out for months. I wore my mask and hoped for the best, and that’s what I got. I would think that the carwash is safe if it is a stay in your car one.

My mother would have said you have needed the sleep. I was up early for me, before 10.

That’s funny, your father’s reading nook!!

Have you looked for a new one. I saw an 8th gen, on Amazon for $395. It may be time to upgrade. I hope you have been backing it up to the cloud or somewhere.

I haven’t looked for a new one. My iPad Pro is 12.9-inch, 2nd generation. To replace this model with a newer is $948.00 on Amazon. I’ll just fix it.

Everything is backed to the cloud.

I would have to drive so far to find a police station here that I’d rather take the chance of meeting that other driver 🙂 🙂 Still I do understand how You felt!

Good thing that Your iPad can be fixed! We’ve had huge problems with Apple here when their products break and there’s still warranty on it. They fefised to repair it and instead “offered” the customer to buy a new one for half price! I guess that’s why they aren’t that popular over here.

It is snowing here now and it’ll continue to do so for at least two days, I’m so glad I still have the winter tires on 🙂

    Have a great day!

With road rage more and more common, I wasn’t about to stop, but I am glad he turned. He was in the wrong so maybe he finally figured that out.

My laptop was totally fixed with the warranty. It would have been so expensive without it I might as well have bought a new one, but I was saved. The innards of my iPad are fine, and that’s what I care about.

Snow? That is horrible! I hope it disappears quickly!!

Stay warm and be careful driving!
