“All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt!”

Last night got cold. It was down to 34˚. I put my socks on and would have added gloves but I needed my fingers so I could type. I wore my socks to bed.

The morning is cold. The day will settle in at about 44˚. It will be sunny. I have one errand and then I’m done for the day. I never did get to the bird feeders yesterday. I decided it was too chilly out on the deck. I’ll pencil in that task for today.

When I was a kid, Easter wasn’t a big deal the way Christmas was. We had no countdown, no heightened excitment. We knew, on Easter Sunday morning, we’d find colorful wicker baskets filled with candy, some small toys, maybe a book and definitely crayons. We got a new box of crayons in our Easter baskets every year. The wooden Paddle Ball game with the red ball connected by an elastic was also a repeat basket gift. My mother even send me one with my Easter box when I was in Africa.

After checking out our baskets, we’d eat as much chocolate as we could before my mother would yell at us to come and eat breakfast. After breakfast, we’d get dressed in our new clothes. My mother would then herd us outside to take our pictures. We stood standing by the bushes and on the front steps. She did groups first then singles. After the pictures, we went to mass. I remember the altar always had white lilies lined across in front of it and the priest wore white vestments. I also remember the sermon was long it being Easter and all.

Some Easter afternoons we went to visit my grandparents in East Boston. Most of my aunts, uncles and cousins were also there. Kids ran up and down the stairs. Adults hid in the kitchen. I was between categories. I was too old for the running and too young for the kitchen. It was a long afternoon but one tempered by the chocolate rabbits my grandmother had for all of us.

I have a couple of packages of Peeps sitting opened on the bookcase shelf. I am letting them get stale, my favorite way to eat them. This preference dates back to Ghana and that Easter box from my mother I mentioned. In the box were packages of pink and yellow Peeps which had gone stale on the journey. I wasn’t going to waste them so I bit into one, a pink Peep (I have no idea. I made this part up). Anyway, I couldn’t believe how good those stale Peeps were, actually how good they still are.

    Hello Kat,

Of all the Easter candy, my favorites are the Cadbury chocolate eggs, followed by the solid chocolate bunnies. These days my spouse buys the leftover Easter candy on Monday and the Cadbury eggs are usually gone. Peeps are my least favorite even as a kid. I never figured out the connection between rabbits and colored eggs. But, I don’t think little kids care.

The sky is partly cloudy and we might get up into the 70s today with a very slim chance of a little rain tomorrow. We need rain badly as we are in moderate drought conditions.

According to yesterday’s news, 18% of the adult population of Texas has already been vaccinated. I’m still amazed at the large numbers of folks who are anti-vaccers. But, then I never thought that Trump would be elected President. I’m amazed that so many people don’t trust the science. Some of their ideas are just ludicrous. One of my coworkers believes that the virus is killed by it eating silver or gold in your bloodstream. He takes colludal silver daily and claims he’s immune. 🙁 I would think that if the answer was that simple scientists would have figured it out quickly. Many of them are concerned about the long term effects since the vaccine was rushed through the certification process. Others, just listen to the right wing crazies on AM radio stations and Fox News. Crazy is as crazy does.

      Hi Bob,
The Easter Bunny is magical so eggs are totally possible. There are chickens which lay colored eggs so maybe that’s why chickens and rabbits are Easter animals.

It is colder than I expected. I did my errand in only a flannel shirt. I should have added a sweatshirt. The sun is shining and there are only a few clouds so from inside the day looks pretty.

The people I feel sorry for are the long-haulers. My nephew Tim was hospitalized twice and still has breathing issues. His doctor suggested warmth so Tim went to Hawaii to visit a friend. He got back today. I hope he is feeling better.

Some people are just idiots, your co-worker among them.

I wonder what will happen if the Vaccine Passport becomes reality. Even now Iceland won’t let anyone in without proof of vaccine. Another country too, but I don’t remember which.

I’m always amazed by people who are college educated, but are gullible for such idiocy. Of course, he’s a right wing trumpster. One idiot I work with wondered last week to me how long we would have to wear these, “Silly face masks”. I replied, as long as the company requires them. That’s the one that signs the paychecks. 🙂

I probably would have told the guy we’re wearing them until we can guarantee our safety, our good health.

Gullible doesn’t respect degrees. I know high school friends who got into college, and we all had trouble believing somewhere accepted them. They had to grow up to be idiots.

We’re having a really nice wetaher here if it wasn’t for the wind. It’s hard and biting cold. Fortunately for me the direction has changed so now it’s quite nice in my garden. More and more spring flowers are now in bloom 🙂

I can’t remember having a favorite candy, well always chocolate but I was happily eating anything 🙂 🙂 We have our candy today, on easter eve so most of it would be gone before tomorrow 🙂 🙂

    Have a happy easter!

    Christer.

      Christer,
It is just cold here with a slight breeze, no wind. It is a good day to be home, inside a warm house.

My garden too is coming alive. So many flowers have started to bloom.

I like all sorts of candy, chocolate being a big favorite. We always got a giant bunny of chocolate. I didn’t buy other than a few Peeps for myself. I did just buy a bouquet of flowers, my Easter gift to me.

      Have a wonderful Easter!
