Somehow, I never realized in all the years I’ve known it in its many iterations that this thing had lyrics.

Of course Nat is always such a class act.

The song is lovely. It has sweet lyrics filled with descriptives and metaphors. Nat’s voice is perfect.

It’s a beautiful song written by Hoagy Charmichael. Nat Cole and his daughter Natalie both had beautiful voices and both passed away much too young.

      It is a beautiful song.

They both died young from their hard lives at time. Nat had lung cancer as he was a heavy smoker. Natalie died of heart disease but had been addicted at times to heavy duty drugs. Sad endings.

Yep, it really is a great song, but I’m pretty sure my favorite version is the one by Spanky (McFarland) and Our Gang. It’s a terrific arrangement with Spanky giving Mama Cass a run for her money. See what you think:

I really loved most of this song; some parts of it were wonderful surprise sounds that had me sit up and listen even harder. I loved what was familiar. Some of it I didn’t Loe as much, but I can’t say exactly where. I forgot to check. I’ll give it another try in a bit.
