“Loyalty to country ALWAYS. Loyalty to government, when it deserves it.”

Yesterday I was glued to the TV. I spoke on the phone to friends who were as shocked as I was. My friend Bill likened it to rubbernecking when going pass an automobile accident. He and Peg and I spoke for over an hour. Moe called from Colorado. Claire and Jay and I also spoke for nearly an hour. We were all appalled by the riots, the insurrectionists, the Republican congressmen who, after the riots, still continued to perpetuate the myth that the election was stolen from Trump and by the President himself who had urged the crowd to go to the capital but was silent until his short speech telling the rioters to go home, that he loved them, but he continued, in that speech, to insist falsely his reelection was stolen. It was no surprise his supporters rioted and broke into Congress. I admit none of us have ever been Trump fans, and, other than a nephew, my family and my friends vote democratic. My grandnephew, a ninth grader, can barely wait to vote. He will be old enough in the next election. He is a democrat, a diehard democrat at 14. That doesn’t surprise any of the family, a family of democrats.

Today is a lovely day, but I have no inclination to go out despite the full trunk of mostly bags of used cat litter. Those bags can wait another day. The TV is on to one of the news channel, but I jump back and forth between CNN and MSNBC. I don’t watch Fox.

Yesterday I walked around the house trying to figure out the right spots for a few of my Christmas presents. I found a home for one but not for the other two. I’ll walk around again today.

When I was in the seventh grade, I watched all four Kennedy-Nixon debates. I was a Kennedy fan, not for his politics but because he was from my state, was a democrat and was young and handsome.

Alexa was connected in the den. In the kitchen the Google device sat on the counter. I have never cursed an inanimate object as much as I cursed Alexa. She knows relatively nothing. Today I asked her the number of Kennedy-Nixon debates. She said, “Hmmm, I don’t know that one.” I went and asked Google. I got the answer and much more. Immediately I switched Google for Alexa. Now she sits in the kitchen virtually ignored while Google and I develop our relationship.

    Dear Kat,
Just a short note. I was screaming when I woke up yesterday and saw what was happening. I thought I would wake up, and be celebrating because Georgia had won. And then it felt like everything crashed.
    4 dead in Ohio, I mean D.C.
    Take Care,
    Lori

      Lori,
I stayed up far too late so I knew what was happening. I saw it all happening in real time and was horrified. That the Democrats won in Georgia was lost for a while because of the bigger news.

Those deaths must be on Trump’s head.

So a 35 year old woman tries to jump through a broken glass panel in to a restricted area, is shot in the neck and dies spitting up blood , wrapped in a trump flag.

And so 4 years of this grifter and his sycophants culminates in a gruesome death for all to see. For four long years he was enabled by fools with names like Cruz and Graham and McConnell and Rubio, all anxious to feed off the base he created and to please his constant demand for attention.

We all have some event that horrified us during the disaster of the last 4 years, kids in cages, taking a knee, Russia, pick whatever you want. But yesterday as we sat and watched this day of infamy at the Capitol, a young woman died in front of us. She was part of a mob attacking the very symbol of our democracy, their fury fermented by Giuliani and don Jr and donald j trump.

Perhaps today some of the 70 million who voted for this failure took a moment to reflect on who they voted for and saw a young woman with blood gurgling out of her mouth dying on the floor of our Capitol.

I am an American, I am very proud of my citizenship in my adopted country. I move forward hoping that President Biden and Vice President Harris can simultaneously address the speedy vaccination of the United States from a pandemic and post trump era

      My Dear Hedley,
I was horrified by this destructive disregard for law which had been fermented by the narcissistic madman in the White House. He was never funny, never just an odd man to be tolerated for four years. He has always been dangerous. I still cannot understand how 70 million voted for him. They had to have understood at some level who he is, what he is. I also blame those sycophants in congress who let him run amok even after the violence started.

I don’t recognize what happened as American. I never thought Trump would go this far. I guess I was naive.

I was angered by all you mentioned from the perfect phone call to this. He needs to go now! Impeach him or persuade members of his cabinet to agree to remove him with Article 25.

Please let nothing happen between now and the inauguration is my prayer.

All those in the Republican Party who supported this narcissistic moron got exactly what they wanted. They were able to undo a lot of the progress made by the Obama Administration, three conservative Supreme Court Justices and hundreds of right wing Federal Judges. This was Mitch McConnell’s dream since he wittinessed the defeat of Robert Bork when he was a new member of the Senate. They got a huge tax reduction bill that favored their major donors, the 1% richest people in the country. For them his shenanigans where worth the embarrassment to our country. His supporters and enablers will crawl back into their holes until the Republican Party nominates another nut case.

Thanks for people like you who came to our country and are naturalized citizens who voted for sanity and maturity in the country.

I admit that I did expect something to happen before he would leave but I didn’t expect that! Swedish television interviewed an old lady, Trump supporter, and she was totally convinced that it wasn’t trumpers who did this. Instead she had it “from good sources” that it was Antifa doing it!! Why she was so convinced her info was right? Because she was on the other side of the building with some other protesters! My good how blind and stupid can one be?

I hear via the news that they now are pressuring Pence to act and use article 25 (was that right?) The idiot needs to be removed now even though it’s just two weeks left until he’s gone but god knows what he might do during those days.

Cold and grey here today and now in the evening we got some more snow, not sure if it’ll show on the ground because the flakes are minimal in size.

Have a great day despite it all!

    Christer.

    • katry Says:

      Christer,
I didn’t expect it would go this far. Trump talked about Antifa even in some of his recent speeches, and he took credit for preventing them from escalating though no one proved they were here. He’d take credit for anything and everything he could.

They are pressuring Pence about Article 25, but it is difficult to prove though we all know he is crazy. The hope is they can impeach, but I think the time is too short.

Today stayed a nice day. I took in all my extension cords and timers. The Christmas lights are now just a memory.

      Enjoy your day!!

  4. Bob Says:

    Hi Kat,

The only comment I heard that made any sense was on NPRs program, Morning Addition, on my way to work. A woman said, “Wouldn’t it be nice if the police treated innocent black people the same way they treat guilty white people”. Where was the DC Metro Police? where was the National Guard? Where was the riot squad or even swat team? The Capital Police were out numbered and not prepared for this mob.

The comments from the rioters was unbelievable. People actually said that God had appointed Trump to be their President for life. Are these people playing with a full deck? Does their elevator go all the way up to their head? Hopefully, those who desecrated our Capital Building will be persecuted to the full extent of the law.

    • katry Says:

      Hi Bob,
That discussion was part of several programs on MSNBC and CNN. We all know why it happened. Several commentators on both news channels said this siege was not unexpected. All you had to do was read social media posts. They very well should have brought in the national guard to start the day, to fortify the capital, before all hell broke loose.

Some rioters shouted, “This is my house.” Others stole media equipment, took the sign off Pelosi’s door and stuff off her desk. They showed the picture of a man walking off with a lectern. Agents are now combing through video and using facial recognition to try to identify the seditionists. It would have been far easier to arrest them yesterday instead of letting them casually leave the capitol building.
