“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”

The morning is gray and dark. It rained last night and will continue raining today. The tops of the pine trees are whipping back and forth in the strong wind. When I got the papers, I was surprised to feel how warm it is. If the wind were gone, it would be long sleeve weather closer to spring than winter. My big and only goals for the weekend are to go to the dump and water my plants. I do have low expectations.

My living room is getting de-Christmased. I’ve been putting my gifts away a couple at a time. I still light the tree and probably will until it settles in its summer quarters in the cellar. The snowmen, though, will hang around for the winter, not, I hope, as inspiration for Mother Nature.

When I was a kid, I never really minded going back to school after Christmas. There wasn’t a whole lot to do at home in the cold of early January. At school, I’d get to see my friends and while away the day.

Bill and Peg, my friends with whom I was in the Peace Corps, and I talk often on the phone. They are keeping tabs on my sanity, but I’m okay for the most part except I’m bored. Still, it is good to know my friends have my back and want to make sure I stay okay.

I have never been a shoe person. When I was a kid, I had my school shoes which doubled as Sunday shoes. My play shoes were usually sneakers, but when I was older, I wanted different shoes. Sneakers didn’t do it for me anymore. I had a pair of saddle shoes. They were my favorite pair for a while. For school, I wore a uniform which included black loafers with no dimes. My shoes now are divided into summer or winter. In summer, I wear sandals all the time. In winter, I have clog slippers which I take off only for bed. I wear them everywhere. My last pair had toe holes at the top. My sister gave me a new pair, a perfect Christmas present for me.

The sun is making a break. I just saw it poke through a cloud for only a few minutes, but sadly, sun is not part of today’s rainy weather report, but I don’t really care. Snow is what I dread.

    Hi Kat,

This morning was cloudy again so I went back to sleep. Now the sun is out but it’s still chilly. We might get up into the mid 50° range.

Woman usually have a pair of shoes for every outfit. My better half has a couple of more pairs than I have but thankfully our closet is not cluttered with her shoes. My daughter, on the other hand won’t throw out her old shoes. I’ve never been a cloths horse and I usually had a pair of athletic shoes and a couple of pairs of dress shoes and that’s what I own today. And, I have a pair of cheap Walmart flip flops for the pool.

On New Year’s Day my wife filled out the form online from the country health department to sign us up for the phase 1b Corona vaccinations. They will confirm the application by email in a couple of days. It’s a beginning. While writing this, I just got the confirmation text that the county health department received my application. Who would have ever thought I would be excited about getting a shot. 🙂

When I was kid, as now I’m anxious to get back to work, after the holidays. This year especially because we have been eating at home or in the car and are spending too much time together. I miss the socialization with my friends at work. I can’t retire because I would become a permanent coach potato which this pandemic and furlough confirmed.

There’s only 18 days left until we dump Trump. I don’t expect to see immediate changes but I do expect to hear a hopeful and healing Inaugural address. We can sure use some hope and healing after four miserable years of Trump.

      Hi Bob,
The sun came out in the early afternoon and stayed the rest of the day, but it got chilly despite the sun. We’ll have 40’s for the next few days.

Nowadays most women, other than those who have to dress up every day or look regal, do not own tons of shoes. I don’t know anyone who does. Shoes tend to be seasonal, warm for winter, cool for summer. Your wife is the norm now.

I haven’t received anything about the shots. I know they have been given out to hospital staff and first responders but know nothing beyond that. I think my a-fib puts me into the first category after first responders. I saw it on-line.

I also miss people. Many of my friends are just staying home and don’t choose to socialize. One of my friends was amazed I didn’t a covid social circle.

More idiot Republican senators are calling into question the election. I’m sure Trump is after Pence to announce Trump as president. He obviously doesn’t understand the certification of the ballots.

Just read that Texas’ junior senator, Ted Cruz, is behind some kind of interference in the process. He’s trying to win over Trump’s base idiots for a Presidential run again in 2024. He’s the guy who got into it with Trump during the 2016 primary campaign. Trump implied that Cruz’s father had something to do with JFK’s assasination. Cruz called Trump the greatest lies in the world. As soon as Trump was nominated, Cruz was kissing Trump’s posterior. He would be a worse president than Trump because he’s 1000 times smarter and more dangerous to democracy. Cruz may not even be eligible because he was born in Canada. However, with a six to three conservative Supreme Court they might declare him elegible anyway.

As for the vaccine, do a Google search for your county’s health department website. That’s where my wife found the form. You fit into group 1b because you are over 65.

I saw Cruz on the news politicking in Georgie. He was Mr. Cool in jeans standing on what I think was a truck bed as he was above the crowd.

Cruz will not have to wait for the Supreme Court to decide. I found this: https://www.politifact.com/article/2015/mar/26/ted-cruz-born-canada-eligible-run-president-update/

Yes, I knew that, but I thought I should throw it in anyway. Does that make me a “A New Wave Birther”?

      • katry Says:

Ha! Yup, you get to join Trump!!

An interesting article about the Republican Party after Trump.

      • katry Says:

        Thanks, Bob
That was an amazingly scary article given the author doubted the Republican Party can right itself. Trump has destroyed the party and currents members fallow behind like lemmings to the sea.

With a little bit of luck we might get the first few snowflakes tomorrow but it’s probably just rain again. It’s dark and gray and rainy here and I miss snow.
I don’t know when I can get a corona shot, I’m in the last category so probably end of summer or fall. Vaccination just started here and it’s already a mess. I will gladly take it whenever possible. Btw, meanwhile our covid death counts are relatively higher than yours now. It wasn’t easy to manage this health crisis even worse than your government but it looks like we finally made it.

    • katry Says:

      Hi Birgit,
I don’t miss snow. We have had just the smallest storm so far. I’m okay with that.

I should get my shot in February, the second tier. After that the wait for the second.

California is in really deep trouble with the number of cases and the lack of ICU beds. They are asking for temporary ICU tents. Tjis is gigantically awful.
