“There’s so much love sent through the mail.”

The morning is dark and damp. During the night, it rained, and more rain is predicted. Today it will be warm, maybe even 60˚, but high wind warnings are in effect for the Cape from this afternoon into late night. I always worry about the pine trees in the backyard during heavy winds. They bend from the top and sway. I’ll keep an eye.

Yesterday I started going through the Christmas presents I’ve already bought, and I put them into individual Christmas bags. I’ll finish sorting today then figure out what I still need to buy. I’m thinking overnight from Amazon. I want my gifts on the road by the end of the week wending their ways to Colorado, Florida, New Hampshire and Stoneham.

When I was a kid, pennies, nickels and dimes were big time money. Quarters made me weep with joy. My mother used to send me for milk or bread. The two nearest corner stores were three and four blocks away. I usually rode my bike. The white store was my favorite. One of the old ladies who ran it was always behind the counter. In my mind’s eye, I can still see the glass candy display case with wood around the outside edges. It was on the right as you went inside. It always took me a long time to decide how to spend my pennies. Mostly I chose the two for a penny candies. I remember Banana Splits candy. It was a square, hard, yellow candy which was chewable but barely and only after a while. You can still find it at Old Time Candy. Yup, it is now described as Old Time. No surprise there!

I hate Alexa. I love Hey Google. This morning I asked Alexa the weather on Cape Cod. She told me she didn’t know that place. I asked her to tell me about Cape Cod. She did, but when I asked her for the local weather again, she said she’d never heard of Cape Cod. I asked Hey Google, and I got my weather report. I wish Alexa could understand me calling her vile names. She always says, “I don’t know that one.”

    Hi Kat,

Try Siri on your iPad. You will get either the correct response or no response. We don’t have or want any of those voice activated things in the house. They are listening to every word and recording them. My new house came with a Ring doorbell. I finally got it connected to my WiFi and paid the $2 monthly fee for Ring to save the video and audio files. Since we activated it in September, I have only been informed of two people, other than my immediate family members coming and going, at the front door. The other two were Amazon delivery people. Eventually, a stranger will come to the door and I will be able to answer it from the office through my phone. 🙂 It has been handy when my wife asks if my son is home. Then, I can look at my phone and check when he left the house if he went through the front doorway

If we didn’t have Christmas we would have to invent something to separate people from their money during the year. From my days working in a retail store, I can attest to the fact that if the merchants have a bad holiday season, then there is nothing they can do for the entire rest of the following year to make up for that loss. Help the economy, spend your money! 🙂

I still can’t pass up the candy isle without either buying a Milky Way bar or something else sweet. I have both a sweet tooth and lots of crowned teeth. During my lifetime, I have paid for several dentist’s kids college education or dentist’s boats. 🙂

This morning the temperature hovered just above freezing at 33° F. However, the sun is shining and the high temperature is predicted to reach a warm 50° F. I could sure use some of that warm November weather. 🙂

      Hi Bob,
My voice activated machines must be pretty bored if they’re listening to what I say, but Alexa records only when you wake her up, and you can delete the day’s recording. When I check the history of heard voices, there are none. I also have a Ring, but I haven’t yet installed it. It is on my to do list.

This is the year to help the economy so maybe we can save some stores and restaurants from being permanently shut. You know I shop all year so I have a short list of what I need.

I love a frozen Milky Way. One of the small stores I frequented used to keep them in the ice cream freezer.

You were colder than we were. It was in the 40’s when I woke up. The clouds are a light grey so no rain quite yet, but the wind has picked up already.

According to my 23 year old son, who thinks he knows everything, he claims they are listening all the time. But he has too much time on his hands. 🙂

I looked it up and several web sites debunk the listening. Every day what you say directly to Alexa is recorded, but you can delete each day on the website.

With time on his hands, he might go hunting about the listening.
