The view master was a simple device to bring the world into your living room. It was a compact version of the stereo viewer from the 19th and early 20th century. The view master was among the things the internet replaced along with World’s Fairs and encyclopedias.

Those old viewers were called stereoscopes. I have one upstairs, and I have several cards to view with it. The cards have two images, exactly the same which merge when you look through the viewer. They are primitive and clever.
