Our school history books don’t cover the efforts and pain that our grandparents and great grandparents suffered for things like the 8 hour work day or the abandonment of child labor. The fight today, is for a raise to the minimum wage. No one can live on the current federal minimum of $7.25 an hour.
I didn’t know until I was an adult that my great-grandfather was murdered in New York. He was an Irish immigrant murdered by mistake. He worked on the railroad which is where many Irishmen found jobs.
Irish need not apply was never explained in texts.
