I remember that my grandmother did all her baking preparations on the kitchen table because kitchens designed in the early part of the 20th century didn’t have any counter space. My grandmother would roll out her strudel dough on the glass top of the table.

By the time we’d get to my grandparents, the dinner, always pasta, had already been made. When my mother made pies, she’d roll the dough on the kitchen table. I remember watching her.
