Boy, that one goes back a ways. I still (kinda) remember it on TV in Black-n-White. I actually remember that Theme more than I do the actual show.
Here’s a funny thing about “Life today”. As much as “everybody-and-their-dog” talks about “diversity & Inclusion”, why aren’t any cowboy/sheriff Westerns included on prime-time TV anymore? (We could use more sci-fi, too….remember the Outer Limits?). But Maverick was a good show. James Garner was a popular guy. Sometimes I used to watch “the Big Valley” with the “Barkley” family. Another good western (before my time) was “LAWMAN” with Marshall Dan Troop (or was that his real name?). Probably the last western I remember watching on TV was early 70s—“The Guns of Will Sonnett” starring Walter Brennan. By the way, that one, is available on DVD through Amazon. Oh, and before I forget, who could forget Chuck Connors and The Rifleman”? That guy could shoot a lit/burning Match off of a fence. “Happy Trails, partner!” 🙂
Owl,
I remember we all watched this together. My brother and I sat on the floor while my parents watched. My younger sisters were in bed by then. James Garner, Maverick, was certainly quite the rage. He was handsome.
I remember them all. For a while, westerns were most of the prime time programs. Yancy Derringer, Have Gun will Travel, Sugarfoot and Cheyenne were some of the westerns we watched.
I loved the opening of The Rifleman. It was dramatic.

I think this was the longest running TV western. James Arness was The star.

I figure this out, a bit confusing. It is correct but all mixed up. Gunsmoke is the longest running western, 20 years. It starred James Arness.
Another James, James Garner, was Maverick.

You got all the main things right, just the series wrong.

Those theme songs have stuck in my head!
