“Let there always be a bright spot in your heart for the people around you. They might need a bit of sunshine.”

The lateness of today is because I have been outside taking in the most beautiful morning, a warm, sunny morning now gone afternoon. I did have a list for today, but it is now trashed for some other day. When I finish here, I’m going for a ride. Today is not to be wasted.

When I was a kid, this would have definitely been a bicycle day. I’d have hauled my bike out of the cellar, jumped on and pedaled far and wide. I’d ride uptown and walk my bike on the sidewalk. I’d stop at the best store windows, the best for viewing. The fish market was always my favorite despite the fishy smell. Their lobster pool was in the front window. I used to stand a while and watch the lobsters move around the tank. My second favorite window was Woolworth’s. It was filled with sundries. Grant’s was a far third. Sometimes I’d also stop at the library.

My bicycle routes brought me all over town and sometimes to the next towns. My bike wasn’t fancy. It had a front wire basket. There were no gears. The brakes worked when you back pedaled. It was hard to ride up steep hills. I was more of a bike walker up those hills, including sometimes my own. I loved my town especially from my bike.

The Boston Globe had an article today about solo quarantines. One quote gave me a chuckle. “I’m a little grouchy and short-tempered.” That’s me. I find myself screaming at Henry when he does his uninterrupted barking. I am torn between leaving the front open to keep him busy or shutting it to keep him quiet. Right now it is open. I’m opting for quiet.

    Hi Kat,

Like you I would have been on my bike exploring when I was a kid on a day like today. The sun is out and the temperature is in the mid 70s. Today is a lazy day where we are staying in and watching movies on Netflix.

I know what a Woolworth variety store, or called a five and ten cent store. Here in Texas we just called them the dime stores. However, what exactly are sundries? I’m fascinated by some of the words in our language such as incessant. Using the term uninterrupted to describe Henry’s barking would be a more accurate description than a word like incessant.

I have to look at my phone to determine the day of the week because being furloughed they all seem to run together.

      Hi Bob,
I have ordered pick up at a couple of stores so I’m just about ready to go do my errands. I am waiting for the hardware store to call back.

We always just called it Woolworth’s. Sundries just means a variety of items. It’s a word used more often at the end of the list as in, I sent such and such and some other sundry items.

No, incessant works better for me because, by its nature, incessant is a negative. It implies annoying repetitive. They are, after all, synonyms.

The first thing I do every morning is ask Alexa the day and time.

      Enjoy the day!!

I could do the same with Siri on my phone or my iPad. Since I’m not working right now it doesn’t matter.

I keep an Alexa in my bedroom. I need her as I have no clock. My clock radio had stopped working so I tossed it.

    Hi Kat,
I might have been on my bike. I might also have been up in the old apple tree with a good book. Either way was a fine way to spend a beautiful, sunny day.

Quarantine isn’t too bad. Sometimes I will yell at the dogs when they’re singing the song of their tribe to the mail carrier. The howling is kind of loud.
When it’s sunny, I leave the door open so Rocky can watch the neighborhood. He’s suffering from social distancing and is desperate to see humans other than me. Taking him for walks so he can see other people doesn’t help because he needs the other people to pet him. They say not to let that happen in this age of plague. It’s very distressing for him. Piki Dog doesn’t care. He’s happy wherever he is.

It’s a lovely day up here, too. The bicycle and the apple tree are long gone but the top step of the front porch abides. That’s where I’ll be.

    Enjoy the evening.

      Hi Caryn,
When it was warm like today, I’d have jumped on my bike. I loved riding.

Henry is howling right now. People bring out the hound in him. The front door is still open so he can see the world and howl. It keeps him happy. The only problem is the traffic is so light on my street it is almost nonexistent.

I got my bins from the hardware store finally. I called in the order and picked it up later. I then took a ride in the opposite direction as my last ride.

      I had a good day!

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Today was sunny and chilly in the morning but rather warm later in the day. From now on we’ll get cloudy weather and around 50F days and probably lots of rain tomorrow.

Days like these would most likely have included a bicycle and most likely my friends and I would be out on an adventure of some kind. Perhaps fishing but most likely running around in the forest in the big park we lived nearby. Or, if I was a bit older I might have biked to our summer cottage for the first time of the year, perhaps even stayed there over night if it wasn’t too cold 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Hi Christer,
It is pouring right now. The wind is tossing the pine branches, and it is dark, an altogether ugly evening to follow the ugly day.

It’s hard to know about home schooling and how much is being done. I don’t see the kids around here. I figure their parents (educators in one family) are keeping them occupied. I wonder if there will be summer vacation considering kids have not been in school since early March.

      You had such fun choices!!

      Have a great day!!

    I’m just really cranky.
