“The marathon never ceases to be a race of joy, a race of wonder.”

This is another late day for me. I woke up a few times during the night, moved around to get comfortable, not easy when a dog is stretched out across your feet and a cat is beside you, but I was able to fall back asleep every time. I woke up for good after ten: okay, long after 10.

My only way to describe today’s weather is to scream.

Today is a holiday in Massachusetts, Patriot’s Day. In all other years the Sox played at home in the morning while the runners were making their way from Hopkinton to Boston. I used to work the marathon, the first few years at a water station then at Copley Square where the race ended. Today the finish line is empty of people. The VIP seats are still in storage. There are no finished runners walking with medals around their necks and foil blankets around their shoulders to keep them warm. Copley is deserted. This is the first time in its 124-year history the Boston Marathon will not be held on its traditional day.

Henry is playing with his new chew toy. He keeps biting the plastic squeaker inside to make noise. I think Henry is getting bored.

It is difficult to figure if the cats are bored. They sleep most of the day anyway. Case in point, Jack is sleeping on the table in front of me.

We have movement on the Gwen front. Last night I could hear Jack meowing or at least I thought it was Jack. I was wrong. I noticed him sleeping on the chair so I went to check the noise. Gwen was halfway down the stairs making her way to the bottom. I patted and talked encouragingly to her. She sat there for a while until Henry was curious enough to come look so Gwen ran upstairs behind the gate to the safety of the cat’s room.

All of them are napping now. I think I’ll join them when I finish here.

    Hi Kat,

Sadly a lack of preparation for this pandemic by the Federal government in January has led us to this situation. Trump is trying every trick known to mandkind to deflect any blame on himself and his administration for his lack of leadership and preparations. In reality he is a child in a man’s body. A spoiled brat kind of child who has never had to take responsibility for his actions. His late best friend and notorious attorney, Roy Cohn, advised him early in his business career to alway punch back harder if anyone punches you.
His entire business career is littered with bankrupt buildings and businesses. That’s the advice given to a bully.

I work for a company headquartered in Montreal Quebec Canada. Today I received an email that all of our employees in Canada who were furloughed can return to work. No, they didn’t invent a cure for Covid 19. 🙂 The Federal government of Canada is going to pay anyone furloughed 75% of their salary up to $850 a week through the 8th of May. Those workers who can work at home will stay home and those that have to come to the plant or office will be separated into shifts to maintain social distancing. How does that compare to the one time $1,200 payment that we haven’t seen yet because Trumo wants his signature on the check? 🙂

Today the sun came out in the afternoon and the temperature is in the mid 70s.

      Hi Bob,
It’s true. He had ample warning about China, time enough to check and replenish medical equipment. He also didn’t start the wartime production of needed goods though he claimed to be a wartime president.

He has no empathy, no feelings. Money is his specie of the realm. Trump marries and divorces and plays around in between. He lacks human values.

That 1200.00 payout will be spent in a heartbeat.

It was cloudy most of the day but it was the most spectacular sunset.

Most stores reopened today here and I read that cities were full of people. Schools will partly open on Thursday. Absolutely irresponsible and dangerous! We were on a good way to keep the infection rates so low that we would have had a chance of tracing back the virus while living a reasonably normal life but our regional Trump-like kings blew it up, especially the one in our federal state. It will probably be a long and dirty virus marathon now.

      Birgit,
People are outside protesting their stay at home orders. By doing so, they are not at home. Idiots.

Beaches have been opened, and they are going to add new places to the list of what can open. It varies state by state. In the polls, people do not want openings until the numbers go down despite Trump’s haste in wanting to reopen everything.
