Some years ago, I met the wife of one of Mrs MDHs leaders at the Catholic Community Response Team. She is from Derry and specifically the Bogside.
So we are chatting and I blurted out that The Undertones are my favorite band to come out of Derry. Absolutely true, goodness knows how many times I bought the LPs and the CDs and the 45s and, well you get the picture
She smiled and said Michael Bradley is her brother.
Oh boy did we have some things to talk about
Mars Bars was written by Michael and shows up on the extended version of the first album. If you have never heard Family Entertainment which opens the album, track it down, crank it up and go KTCC crazy.
The Undertones were not overtly political, but on the day Bobby Sands died, they performed the O’Neill/Bradley composition “It’s going to happen” on Top of the Pops with O’Neill wearing a black arm band
Such were the troubles and the Bogside and the hunger strikes and the marvelous Undertones and my life looping and Don’t call it Londonderry
My Dear Hedley,
It is a good thing that you like to chat or you would have missed this wonderful experience. I wouldn’t have known that The Undertones come from Derry so it would have been a polite hello and that’s all. It doesn’t surprise that you knew The Undertones and Derry. Your music knowledge amazes me.
I know all about buying LP’s then cassettes then CD’s of my favorite singers and singing groups. Now I’m buying MP3’s for my iPod.
I will definitely look for Family Entertainment. I’ll head on over to YouTube.
There are times when being political is necessary.

Yea, we were trying to find a common footing, and it was taking a bit. There are four genuinely wonderful albums if you decide to go on an adventure.
I am known as an overtalker, this time it turned out to be way cool.
The Undertones, Hypnotized, Positive Touch and Sin of Pride.

I sometimes meet the most interesting people. My mother used to wonder why people were drawn to talk to me.
