“The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.”
Earlier I had an errand at a local library which is the reason for the lateness of my post. I got dressed and left even before I’d finished the papers. It was sunny and 45˚ when I got into the car. All of a sudden it was cloudy and rainy, a light rain at first then a heavy rain then it stopped almost as quickly as it had begun. Now the sky is cloudy and a strong wind is blowing. I don’t care. I’m home and comfortable and going nowhere.
Here is my bad movie for the day: 500 MPH Storm. The scientist saves us all by directing a beam at they of the storm. He is with his wife and teenage son, probably 17 or so, saving them from the storm. The kid is a whiner castigating his father the whole way. He cries and calls for his mother. I’d have let the storm take the kid. I began to think of him as storm bait, maybe a sacrifice like a virgin thrown into a volcano to please the gods.
Winter makes me lazy. A freezing day keeps me inside. I want warmth and comfort. I want chicken noodle soup or maybe tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I want my afghan wrapped around me and my dog beside me. Languid is the word of the day.
I don’t mind eating the apple peel, and I like the crusts of bread toasted. I used to spit out orange seeds. Now there aren’t any. Because I hate cutting around the pit of a mango, I looked it up on Google and watched a video, but I still think a mango is a lot of work. Bananas should be peeled from the opposite end of the pointed tip. Most people don’t peel their bananas that way. Monkeys do. You need a sharp knife to cut a pineapple. I buy already cut fresh pineapple. It’s far easier. When I eat fruit, I have to share with Henry. His favorite is kiwi.

Hi Kat,
I’d have considered using the kid for storm bait, too.
Once a long time ago before mangoes were a popular and readily available fruit around here, a friend who had lots of experience with them in her native country said they should be eaten naked in the bathtub. Having just sloshed my way through my first freshly picked, tree-ripened mango, I had to agree with her. Store-bought mangoes aren’t anywhere near as juicy or sticky. Nor do they taste so wonderfully mango-y. I’m seriously spoiled for mangoes now.
I am required to share watermelon with Rocky. Piki Dog only cares if he’s getting whatever Rocky is getting.
It’s been raining off and on all day up here. It’s not particularly cold but the damp makes it feel that way.
Enjoy the day.

Hi Caryn,
That kid deserve it.
I remember the juice running down my hand to my arm when I’d buy a mango in Ghana. They were delicious. My favorite small store sells already cut fruit. They have a tropical mix to which I am addicted. It always includes mango, and wherever they get it, the mango is tasty and juicy.
Henry also likes watermelon. He is the first dog I’ve ever had who likes fruits and vegetables.
It hasn’t rained since earlier when I was out, ut it is an ugly day.
Have a great day inside and warm.

Most interesting. I’ve never lived with a fanged beast who wanted fruit, but as they say, I seen it on the Internet.

Rowen,
None of my other dogs liked fruit or vegetables.
Gracie loved Merrick dog food. Her favorite was Grammy’s Pot Pie, but she didn’t like the peas. After she’d finished, only the peas were left, and she had put them circling the inside of the bowl. That took great talent.

I’ve noticed that the delicate particularity of an intelligent dog can be astonishing.

I was always astonished by Gracie’s ability to isolate the peas then manipulate them so they formed a circle.

Hi Kat,
We also buy the grocery store precut pineapple and melons rather than cutting them ourselves. Let the store have the mess. Mangos don’t really do anything for me and I am not a banana fan. Next time I eat one I will try peeling it from the opposite end like a monkey. They have been eating them longer than we have. 🙂
Our dogs had no interest in eating fruit and I was reluctant to sharing it with them. I agree that the peel of the apple is the best part and the crust is the best part of bread.
Today we didn’t quite reach 70 degrees with clear skies and a breezy south wind. Winter is still hiding until tomorrow.

Hi Bob,
The tropical fruit precut fruit is amazing, but the store doesn’t have it often enough. They did tell me to call ahead, and they’ll cut it up for me.
I didn’t like mangoes at first. I thought they tasted like furniture polish might taste like. After a while, I came to like mangoes and even make a wonderful mango salsa.
Bananas are a favorite of mine. They are great in cereal and I sometimes slather a bit of peanut butter on one (a bit like Elvis did but without the bacon, bread or the honey). In Ghana they were always safe to eat because they had that peel.
Henry seemed interested so I gave him some fruit. Now he likes all sorts.
It was 47˚ today but the wind was just too much.

Bannanas are considered to be a very healthy fruit containing lots of potassium which is good for heart health. However, like exercise, eating less fat and refined sugar I don’t follow through because those things are not fun and takes effort. 🙂

I like the taste of bananas. The potassium is a bonus.

That’s the way I feel about Dakota Fanning in the War of the Worlds 🙂 🙂 The poor girls has to be screaming all through the movie and I just sat there and wanted her to be tossed to the aliens 🙂 🙂
Sunny and warm here but with a strong wind, still the kitchen door is open again today and the birds are singing.
All my dogs love fruit and their favorites are apples and Persimmons. Nova was suspicious about the persimmons for a long time but now she gulps it down 🙂 Mango is my personal favorite even though persimmons comes close after 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
I totally understand the pain of listening to Dakota Fanning screaming. It drove me crazy. and her brother did too.
Warmer than yesterday here, but still chilly.
I don’t think I haver ever tasted a persimmon. I’m not even sure my local grocery store sells them. I’ll have to check. I was surprised Henry liked fruit as none of my other dogs do.
Have a great day!

Just remember that persimmons should be almost over ripe when eaten, otherwise it’s just like eating a piece of wood 🙂 🙂 🙂

How can you tell they are ripe?
