“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.”

Mother Nature has welcomed the new year with sun and warmth. The high today will be in the 50’s. Tonight, though, it will drop to the 20’s. Winter keeps reminding us that it holds sway.

Last night was quiet, but I still made it to midnight. I wished Henry a Happy New Year but he was sleeping and cares little about what day it is. Henry is only concerned about breakfast and dinner.

All right, here’s the deal. Somehow I deleted what I’d written, and the automatic save draft saved the sparse new one. I’m not happy!! My muse was tardy this morning so it took me a while to write. I was doing the final proof when Coffee disappeared into the ether.

The only thing I remember is the last paragraph. I mentioned that I’d start taking Christmas down tomorrow, and that I figure it will take a couple of days. I won’t turn the outside lights off until the day after Little Christmas. I figure the Three Kings need lights to guide them.

Happy New Year!!

    Hi Kat,

We even made it until midnight here in the Central time zone. First we watched the ball drop in NYC and watched those poor folks suffer in that cold rain. The, we watched the local celebration downtown with a huge fireworks display at the Reunion Tower at midnight. We drank a little cheap champagne and wished everyone a good new year. No one remembered to turn on the Tournament of Roses parade this morning. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Now we have to get through January and February which are boring dreary months. After the holidays in December the letdown in the winter is depressing. Iโ€™m glad that 2018 is now history as itโ€™s been a difficult year in our family. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The only thing bad about typing online is if thereโ€™s a glitch the entire thing is lost. I should type in a word processor program, and then copy the text and then past it into the webpage. Of course I donโ€™t take my own advice. ๐Ÿ™‚

Today is cloudy with temperatures in the low 40s.

    Happy 2019!

      Hi Bob,
Kudos for making it not only to midnight but also beyond. You celebrated well. I watched the ball fall then turned to a different program. I did watch the parade this morning. I turned on the TV and just happened upon then parade orI wouldn’t have see it either.

When I was working, I had February to look forward to as it was winter vacation time. Now I just need to find stuff to keep me busy. You are right about the next few months being a bit boring.

I couldn’t believe it disappeared. I tried to stop the automatic save but I wasn’t quick enough so poof, gone. I’ll just have to pay more attention.

      Happy New Year!!!

The under the weather Mrs MDH and I wandered out late yesterday afternoon to see โ€œMary Poppins Returnsโ€. The critics didnโ€™t care for it but we liked it, and there was applause in the cinema at the end.

I stayed awake long enough to see Rockin Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest getting soaked in Times Square, and I was gone.

So I wish everyone a very Happy New Year, Spurs won, I am playing the Arctic Monkeys and The 1975. Mrs MDH is busy planning February sunshine

      My Dear Hedley,
If Mrs.MDH is planning a trip, I’m thinking she must feel better.

I would go see the new Mary Poppins. I’ve seen a few scenes here and there, and I liked what I saw.

I stayed up a little longer than you. I watched a few TV shows on Prime, read a bit then went to bed. It was after one so on the first day of the new year I slept late.

      Have a Happy New Year!

A storm passed by and it was much worse than they had predicted. 100 000 households have no power and the roar was so loud that I had problems sleeping ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ Some gusts hit the cottage but nothing worse. A few things flew around but thankfully landed in my garden again ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

It is still blowing pretty hard and I’m wondering where our morning walks would go. Out to the fields where we’ll get hit by the wind and probably freeze rather a lot or in to the forest where trees can hit us ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ It will at least be a sunny morning, the sky is clear and I can see the moon and Venus from my kitchen door window.

Have a good continuing of the new year!

    Christer.

      Hi Christer,
The wind is scarier than almost anything. It howls, and when it blows, it shakes the house and the trees. Having no power in the winter means no heat, and that is just horrible. It has happened to me. The worst was when it got down to 38หš in my house before the heat came roaring back.

We also had sun, but it was quite cold today. I went to the dump where the wind whips by as there is nothing to buffer it.

      Have a great day!

    Hi Kat,
I hate it when the machine eats my work. And the bits that it eats were always much much better than the replacement bits I come up with afterwards.

My friend’s open house for her fiber artist friends was a great success. There was food and show and tell and conversation and laughter. In short it was a wonderful way to open the new year.

The weather today was cold and clear. Very different from NYD. I started to get dressed, got sidetracked with bill paying and other things and just never got around to finishing getting dressed. The dogs don’t mind if I take them out wearing a sweater and sweat pants and pink crocs. They have no fashion sense anyway. ๐Ÿ˜€

My lighted wreath will stay on the front door until it’s no longer dark at an unconscionably early hour of the evening. I figure sometime around February.
    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
I just couldn’t remember what I had already written and didn’t want to start over. Saving happened so quickly I didn’t give it a thought until I saw the empty space, and by then it was too late.

The picture was great on Facebook. What a great way to start the new year.

It was chilly here as well. I went to the dump where it was freezing. I also picked up a few essentials like cream and bread. The last thing I wanted to do was go out but decided to bite the bullet and go. I started taking Christmas down but didn’t get very far.

My outside lights will also stay on, at least until Little Christmas. I do have some outside white lights that stay on all the time. My street has no streetlights and three empty houses on this end of the street so it is always dark which is why I have those lights all year.

      Have a great evening!
