Having been on the planet for some time at this point, and having loved the many animal companions with whom I’ve lived, I know all too well what you’re feeling now. I’m sorry to read of your loss, but I’m certain you were doing what was best as regards Maddie’s health and — most importantly — her dignity. Cats are a proud bunch. I could never bear seeing one living a partial life. Doubtless you feel that way too. In sympathy, R.
The vet offered to help her, but I knew it was Maddie’s time. She couldn’t jump up to the table where she slept and wouldn’t eat. All of that started today though I knew it was coming as she had started to slow down.
I’m so sorry for you and send you love and hugs. Miss Fern has been waiting and has company for the long sleep. One of the connections I had to you and this blog was your animal stories , music and hatred of squirrels. Hope your baby feels better soon.Denise
Thanks, Denise
I chuckled at the thought of Fern and Maddie finding it other. They always hissed at and whacked each other when they met in any room. That they had been together for 18 years before we lost Fern made no difference.
I suspect Henry is going to wonder where Maddie is. He loved her. Many times her head was wet from being lapped by Henry. He was always careful around her.
Henry wore his squirrel Halloween costume for about 2 minutes. I didn’t even have time to focus my camera!!
Henry might need a buddy to love. At my age, I really didn’t want another cat because they live so long. To my chagrin a young pregnant kitten showed up. My circle has increased threefold! I call them my NC cats. NC has a lot of kill shelters. ohhh😮 Go Sox! Denise
Denise,
Henry is sticking with me everywhere in the house I go. He is licking me every chance he gets.
Fern and Maddie were from a shelter. I called and said I’d take older cats if they were dog friendly. They were. Maybe I’ll go with an older cat again.

Maddie is now in my backyard and has joined Miss Fern. It is really tough.

As you said, she needed to die with dignity.
Thanks you!
