“All dwarfs have beards and wear up to twelve layers of clothing. Gender is more or less optional.”

Today is another beautiful day. It will be the last for a bit as the heat and humidity are  returning tomorrow. We’re talking 90’s again and air conditioning. Mother Nature did it. She lulled me into a false sense of fall by the last couple of days.

I have a few errands today. One is to the farm stand, and that one is my favorite. I get to buy all those wonderful fresh vegetables and more salsa chips. I know that last one sounds strange, but the stand does sell the best tasting chips.

Today is sunny and bearably warm. The Sox are playing a day game. I’ll be watching.

I prefer swimming in fresh water more than salt which is a bit ironic given where I live. I like the beach, the sandy part, and I like watching the waves. I chuckle at the seagulls.

My mother made the best brownies. She made them from ingredients, not a box. She always iced them in chocolate frosting and use jimmies for an added touch. I never ate just one of those brownies.

Yesterday I planted the flowers in the deck pots. Now I just need to plant the two remaining flowers in my front garden. A couple of them have bloomed. The flowers are purple and puffy looking.

Charlie Baker, the governor, is running for re-election. He is quite popular here even though he is a republican. I like that people in Massachusetts vote the person not the party, but I am already sick of Charlie Baker. His ads are all over the place. I can’t watch a youTube video without him popping up first. The same ad is on TV over and over. He does have an opponent in the primary, but I have no idea who it is. I doubt anyone knows so pull back those ads, Charlie.

I haven’t baked in a while. I use my oven as an extra cabinet for storing mostly crackers and cereal so when I use the oven it has to be cleared first. Once I missed something in the back, and it turned all black from the preheating. Now I always double check.

I read an article which discussed which was correct: dwarfs or dwarves. I would figure dwarfs was and there is no reason for the change in form to dwarves. It seems “dwarves” was coined by Tolkien about 80 years ago to give his dwarves a dignity that dwarfs could hardly attain. So successful have his stories been that “dwarves” seems to be superseding “dwarfs” as the regular plural of “dwarf”,  but don’t worry: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will stay the same.

Do we have to call them, Little People to be politically correct? Or, can we call the ones in novels and movies Dwarfs? One thing the left did to hinder us was to force us to make silly distinctions verses common sense one’s. I would never call a person of color by any name except their given name. Even the Disney dwarfs had first names, Sleepy, Grouchy and I can’t remember the names of the other five. My right wing coworkers make a big deal about ‘political correctness’ and put the blame on Obama rather than just calling all people just people. I don’t think they would use the ‘N’ word in public but I think that they miss being able to do so.

I agree with you about swimming in fresh water. I will even go so far as to say I will only swim in a swimming pool. I hate lake water because I don’t like the feeling of what’s on the bottom of the lake and I don’t like ocean water because of the salt. Newer swimming pools make their own chlorine from bags of salt instead of chemical chorine. It seems to be less harmful on your skin but not as bad as seawater.

My mother always made brownies from a mix and then added milk instead of water to enrich the brownie. She frosted them from canned frosting. My mother was not a baker, she was a good cook but took shortcuts by using mixes.

The political season is upon us and the nasty ads are sure to come. We actually have a state wide competitive Democrat running for Ted Cruz’s Senate seat. If Beto O’Rourke wins in November it will be the first time a Democrat will have won a statewide election in Texas since 1994. If Beto can get the Hispanic voters to the polls, something that hasn’t happened before, he has a good chance to win. Because Texas is so solidly Republican the Democrats haven’t spent much money trying to win statewide races and the nasty campaign ads are run elsewhere. The big cities of Dallas, Houston and Austin are mostly Democratic, but the suburbs and the rural areas are solidly Republican.

Although there’s a very slight chance of some thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon, I don’t have to tell you the forecast for today. The initials are H and H. 🙂

      Bob,
I think that is what they prefer so I’d go with that. It has to do with their preference, not what is PC. It would seem to me to be easier to describe a person by his or her name than anything else. I haven’t heard the term PC in a long while around here. I guess the expectation is that people know what is the right thing to say. I wouldn’t hazard an opinion about how not saying the “N” word affects people.

I don’t like the chlorine in swimming pool, but that would be my second choice after ponds or lakes. I’d suggest you could wear the rubber shoes which are so popular now. That way you’d never know about the bottom.

My mother was a good cook who made all her own desserts. She also made the best frosting. Some mixes are quite tasty. I know people who swear by them.

There haven’t been nasty ads. The Charlie Baker ones talk about what a wonderful governor he has been. Many of the opponents haven’t been chosen yet as the primary is on Tuesday.

It is H and H here for a few days too.

GO GO GO Beto! My neighborhood is covered with Beto signs, but then it’s a very liberal area, so I’m not sure that means much. Still, one can hope. He’s a rock star!

And, yes, the preferred term is “little people.”

        im6,
I have been following that race and echo your Go Go Beto! Nothing is in contention yet here. The primaries are tomorrow. After that the races will ramp up.

Elections here next Sunday and I now avoid any program where there’s a chance a politician turns up which seems to be most programs. Here we mostly vote on parties even if we can vote for a person too by putting an X in front of their name. Won’t do much difference since that person most likely will follow party line anyway.

I’ve had an odd mood all week but today it seems I’m back to normal again. I’ll start my late week tomorrow so I won’t be out much on the net until next Friday. I’m pretty sure it will take some time to change my mornings to a later time than usual, so I guess there will be lots of napping this first week 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

Of course it should be dwarfs 🙂 dwarves both look and sound strange to me 🙂

      Christer,
I’d not be able to watch any TV as the ad crops up all over, and this isn’t even the political season yet. That will start after next week’s primary. It will determine who runs against whom then all the ads will start.

Whenever your day schedule changes, it does take a while for your body to catch up with the new times. I think maybe napping won’t help you catch up with yourself.

Have a great day and good luck on the time change!

    Hi Kat,
Baker’s oppo in the primary is Scott Lively, a conservative Christian pastor who is president of Abiding something or other ministries out of California. Republicans aren’t as enamored of Baker as Democrats are. Most likely all the Baker ads are really aimed at Gonzalez and the mid-terms. I’m a little tired of hearing how he is American’s “most loved” governor. It’s wince-making.

I thought I recognized that quote and I did know that about Tolkien and the word dwarves. It seems appropriate somehow that Disney and Pratchett should use dwarfs while Tolkien’s should be dwarves. I can’t picture Thórin 1 Oakenshield singing “Hey-ho, Hey-ho. It’s off to work we go.” But maybe, if he’s in his cups, he might do something like that. 🙂

It’s warmer up here and the humidity is coming in. I did some grocery shopping this morning before settling in to pay bills. Just dragging the two little bags in from the jeep to the kitchen had me glistening considerably.

Lakes and rivers are for swimming, fishing, and rowboating. Ocean is for dipping toes into and gazing at.
    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
Thanks for telling me. I don’t think I have ever heard the name Scott Lively. If he is intending to have a fight, he is late getting into the ring. Baker is all over the airwaves.I am not terribly enamored by Baker, but I have seen far worse.

I agree with Disney and Patchett choosing dwarfs. I got a chuckle about envisioning Thórin 1 Oakenshield singing Hi Ho.

It got warmer here so I turned on the Ac just to cool the house. I turned it off when it got dark. The house has stayed cool in the night air. I did my errands then came home and did nothing. I haven’t looked at my bills yet-tomorrow maybe though it is movie night, and I have some stuff to do.

I totally agree with your last sentence, but I would add fishing to the ocean.

      Have a great day!!
