“God, it was hot! Forget about frying an egg on the sidewalk; this kind of heat would fry an egg inside the chicken.”

The air conditioner is a must. The heat is stifling. The little breeze has no effect. Getting my morning papers took a bit of effort. The one good thing was I noticed some buds of the clematis covering my fence have started to bloom. Soon enough the fence will be covered in a crown of white. Also, the white anemones in the garden next to the house are blooming. I started with one plant and now the flowers have spread across that whole side of the front garden. The other side doesn’t grow as quickly. Even the bushes on that side are shorter than the bushes on the other side. It’s all the sun’s fault.

Yesterday I bought some plants to replace the dead ones in some of the deck pots. The plants were on sale. I bought mostly lavender for the deck, and I bought some perennials  for a bare spot in the big garden. Those flowers will remain nameless because I can’t remember their name. By the time I got home, sweat was dripping down the sides of my face. I. was not a pleasant sight.

The heat has gotten to me. I am watching a really bad movie, even bad for me: Piranha 3DD. Gary Busey, David Hasselhoff and Ving Rhames are in it which might give you an idea of how really bad it is. The owner of a water park saved money by filling his pools with water from a deep lake in the ocean, a deep lake filled with piranha. They are eating their fill.

I finished my laundry, a huge accomplishment; however, it still sits in a basket in the living room. Getting it upstairs is a two step process. I’m still working on step two.

When small things go wrong, I am driven crazy. Right now it is the back screen door handle. It doesn’t shut tightly. That started yesterday. I have to take off the handle then go to the aluminum door store to get the right part. Henry goes out the dog door but wants me to let him in. That now stops. It took a while, but I got the screen door to shut. Henry will just after to understand.

My to do list is empty today. I have a good book, some leftover salsa and chips and a few catalogues to look through with an eye to Christmas. My most trying efforts today will be turning the pages and dipping the chips into salsa. I may need a nap.

    Hi Kat,
Today is officially a slacker day. Tomorrow might be one, too.
We went out for the morning walk and it was horrible. For 8 AM it was nasty warm. The sweat was poring off me by the time we got home. The dogs didn’t care, of course. They just wanted to sniff things, mark things, and then eat breakfast. Now they’re asleep on the couch in front of the fan and in the downdraft from the AC unit.

I have made several starts at getting to the cellar to bring up the clean laundry. Haven’t gotten there yet. By the time I do, the clothes will all smell a little cellar-y and I’ll have to rewash them. Oh, well.

My back storm door handle broke like that. I have the replacement and have had it for a couple of years now. The back door is seldom used and the storm door seems to stay shut on it’s own so it’s not high on the list.

It’s time for a sandwich. Something that doesn’t involve heat of any kind.

Enjoy the day and stay cool.

      Hi Caryn,
I did a great job being a slacker today and am ready for tomorrow.

I was out to get the papers and went down to my friends for dinner. Each time I went outside I felt sucked in by the air. Walking back into the house was so lovely.

The laundry is still in the living room, but I am determined to bring the basket upstairs tonight when I go to bed. I’ll even put the clothes away. I have sheets and stuff for another watch. Maybe I’ll even get it done tomorrow.

I use the back door all the time as it is the door to the deck. I may schedule a stop to the shop on Thursday for a replacement part. That depends on the weather.

I am so not happy watching the Sox!!

      Have a great day!

There is NO dog food in the house so I will have to brave the heat today (Weds). Rocky and Piki Dog would be happy to subsist on people food but that would require me to cook and that’s not gonna happen. 🙂 A run to the ice cream stand may be necessary as well.

Going out to get dog food in this heat deserves a reward. You must stop at the ice cream stand.

My neighbor up the road brought me a load of firewood today. We started moving it from the driveway to the back woodpile, but had to quit and jump into the pool. More tomorrow in the a.m. What is up with this weather. It’s probably cooler in Bolga.

    • katry Says:

      Bill.
Starting to move the firewood was a bad idea in the first place. It was just too hot!

I really don’t remember feeling the heat this much in Bolga!!!

Today wasn’t horribly hot only 97 at 4:30 PM. Air conditioning is the one thing I would not live without except for indoor plumbing. Imagine leaving your air conditioned house to use the outhouse in the backyard. 😦

Tomorrow is my proficiency check after a two week layoff. I have tonight and the morning for last minute studying. 🙂 I’m not too concerned. Kat, wish me luck. I don’t believe in luck but I won’t turn down good luck wishes.

I understand about small things going wrong and bugging me. At work I’m used to things going wrong but at home it drives me nuts.

      Bob,
Boston had a heat index of 105˚ today. We got to 86˚. That is really hot especially for this time of the year. I’d also prefer indoor plumbing if given a choice between that an air conditioning. I would hate to plow through snow to get to the outhouse in the winter. I can’t imagine sitting there when it is cold.

I’m wishing you tons of luck for tomorrow!! I bet you are completely prepared! Proficiency here you come!

I’m with you in small things driving me nuts!!

I did go to the ice cream stand after getting dog food. The Maine Blueberry was delicious and I bought a quart of native peach ice cream to take home. On the way home, the jeep felt weird and then smoke started coming out from under my right wheel well. Fortunately, the Middleton fire station was right across from me so I made a legal right on red and an illegal left on red and pulled in. The crew checked it out. They pulled out a fire truck, too. But they decided that it was a seized brake pad and let me park in their lot to wait for AAA. The ice cream was not going to live through that in its frozen state so I gave it to the firefighters. The AAA tow driver fixed the problem so I could drive home. All is well except I will have to get new brake pads sooner rather than later.
    Such adventures I have. :/ 🙂

      Hi Caryn,
I had to get new brake pads at my last car checkup. I’m glad mine did not smoke and were caught early. They are not something I would know about until they went.

You were in a lucky spot for smoke. My luck would have it I’d be in the desert or on a long country road.

Sorry about that ice cream but it went to a good cause!

      Have a great day!!!
