“Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.”

When I woke up, I could hear the drops of rain. Still lying in bed, I looked out my window and saw a dark morning with a cloud covered sky. I looked at my clock. It was 10:55. I had gone to bed early for me but couldn’t get to sleep. I read a while until my hand was cold then snuggled under the blankets. I fell asleep but woke up a few times.  When I finally got up to face the day, I noticed my covers were askew and half the comforter was on the floor, evidence of my restlessness.

Maddie was strange yesterday, and it scared me. Her dish was filled as she hadn’t eaten the night before. She didn’t use the puppy pads but did use the floor in a variety of spots, totally not a Maddie move. She wasn’t having her usual morning nap but was following me. She didn’t eat her treats. In the kitchen, she started to squat on the floor. I stopped her. She then dragged her butt across the floor. I grabbed her and checked. Yup, she needed a little help in getting clean. I was thrilled which sounds like a strange reaction to having to clean a cat’s butt, but I was relieved she wasn’t sick. I couldn’t have dealt with that right now. She is my one and only. Maddie was fine this morning. Her food dish was clean, she’d eaten all the treats and used the puppy pads. She’s now asleep on the couch. All is well with my world.

The Patriots did it again. They were behind 20-10 at the half, but we weren’t worried.  Okay, maybe we were a little worried, but they are the Patriots, and we held on to that. They scored two touchdowns in the 4th quarter while the Jaguars scored only two field goals in all of the second half. The Pats won a trip to the Super Bowl with a score of 24 to  20.

I have nothing needing doing today. I have some stuff I could do but don’t have to do. I know that sounds a bit convoluted, but it just means I’m choosing to be lazy, a less than noble choice I know but one I love and continue to espouse.

When I was a kid, I was a busy kid. After school I played outside, and on Saturdays I roamed the town. I rode my bike all year including snowless days in winter. I never  tried to be busy. I just was. The only exception was when I had a good book or even two good books. I’d read all day long. Time passed, and I was unaware. I remember looking out the window once and being surprised it was dark. I still do that with books. I read all day and often into the night. It is never time wasted but rather time to be savored.

My work friend and I was sitting at the breakfast break and I said: So fun, the Patriots will be in the Super Bowl again! Turns out he had missed the game and didn’t know, planning to watch it later today. Well he’s very happy anyway 🙂 🙂

Yes it had been too much if she had been sick now! I’m glad it was nothing worse but why can’t they just try and show us what’s wrong instead of doing all those other things 🙂 🙂

I’m so glad that I grew up before the computers and phones, we were always doing something all the time 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
At least your friend won’t have go through what we did when watching it. The first half was a nightmare, but the second half was amazing.

Sometimes I do wish animals could speak, and Maddie yesterday is a great reason why. If she hadn’t done her antics in the kitchen, I would not have know what was wrong.

We did know how to stay busy when we were kids. We didn’t need any help from electronics.

      Have a great day!!

I give a lot more credit to veterinarians than medical doctors. Vets have to diagnose their patients who can’t speak. I guess pediatrician share the same credit.

Although, you are a Pats fan I’m rooting for the Eagles. The Pats have become the football version of the 1950s NY Yankees, a dynasty. 🙂

I spent many days during summer vacations and holidays reading. I was a fan of paperback books because I could keep them. I’m still a hoarder of books both physical and digital. In the fifth grade I was reading Leon Uris books, Exodus, Battle Cry and The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich by William Shire. I was reading adult books at a young age.

Today was sunny with a high in the 60s.

      Bob,
I also think veterinarians are in danger of being bitten by a very nervous scared animal.

We were discussing how nobody outside of New England (except transplants from New England) are Patriots fans. I felt the way you do about the Yankees, the perennial winters of the series.

I read so many books in the children’s side of the library that I got permission to use the adult side. I felt as if I had died and gone to library heaven.

There was a paperback book store a few blocks from where I lived in NYC between the eighth grade and college and I bought lots of books to read after school, while riding on the subway or buses. At twenty five cents a book I was hooked.

In NY if you were or are a Yankee fan they could do no wrong. I was a Brooklyn Dodger fan until they moved to LA and I hated the Yankees. The only time the Dodgers won the World Series was in 1955 after loosing to them several times in the decade. I later became a Mets fan. Even though the Rangers are in the American League I’m a big National league fan. The designated hitter has ruined the game. 🙁

      Bob,
I have been a fan of the Mets for a long while. They are my National League team though I do have a soft spot for the Cubbies.

I used to buy paperback books with no covers. They were a dime. Its was the Best Buy!!
