UPDATE ON THE HEAT OR RATHER THE LACK THEREOF
It is 5:08. The repairman just left. The broken part is not carried by his company. He will call his boss in the morning to see if they have one on hand. If not, he will tell me the name of the part and which company might have one. Right now I am going to snuggle under the down comforter from the guest room bed and an afghan and try to get some sleep.

Christer,
No part available. Now I have to try another company.

Ugh! I’m so sorry! I hope a part can be found soon!

sprite,
I have a repairman here, but he doesn’t have that part either. We’re all in trouble!
December 31, 2017 at 6:56 am
Oh, that’s really bad timing. Good luck and stay warm!

Birgit,
Thanks for the good luck wish as I’m needing it! I just turned on a space heater.

That totally sucks.
Here in Detroit, it is dangerously cold. Sadie, the black lab next door just went out and scattered the deer. I am heading for Mass at 10 meanwhile my morning is taken up withThe Sunday Times, Crystal Palace and Bob Dylan…multi tasking
I was woofing at im6 about Bob’s “Trouble No More”, he claimed no knowledge and I told him that it is fabgear which it is.
Stay warm Kat, and a very happy New Year to the KTCC Family

My Dear Hedley,
Yes it does totally suck!
Here it is also dangerously cold. My repairman cannot repair-does not have the part. I have turned on a space heater and am going to cover the door to this room so it will get warm.
I’ll take your review-I always do!
Happy New Year to you as well!!

This record-breaking cold and nothing to ignore. Get yourself another space heater(they’re all1500 watts) and plug into a different circuit. As long as the pipes are okay.
My father-in-law’s shower lines froze to a dribble in the unheated crawl space. I told him to run the shower 3x a day until this is passed.
We’ll be at Lisa’s tonight for Chinese food and the 3 Stooges marathon, then leave for home at 12:01. I’ll need a nap before we head out later.
It’s been too cold to walk, so I’ve been using the treadmill. Better than nothing.

Bill,
I have 3 space heaters a former student brought me. One he said to put in the cellar. One is in here. It is down to 51˚.
The good thing is my cellar is above ground so the pipes aren’t in the frozen ground.
I’m staying home tonight though I may treat myself to a few Chinese appetizers. I went to bed at 5 this morning and woke up at 9. I’m thinking a nap later if my house is warm enough.
I have called 4 companies hoping for service. The first one found out what was wrong but his company didn’t carry parts for this heater. The second one didn’t answer though it boasts of 24/7 service. The third said that they were only servicing customers, but he would call if he had time. The fourth said the’d get back to me within a half hour or I should call them back. That is in 15 minutes.I am not having great luck today!

Sadly, our heaters seem to fail on the coldest of days and our AC fails on the hottest. Hopefully, someone will have the part and be able to repair your heat by this evening.
December 31, 2017 at 12:33 pm
Bob,
My house is already down to 50˚. By tonight we’ll be blocks of ice. I’m waiting on my company to call back.

It’s unbelievable that you can’t get this fixed! After trading comments with you when it first happened last night, I couldn’t believe when I signed on today and saw you were still furnace-less.
Keeping fingers crossed for you!

BG,
A guy is here now, but he doesn’t think he has the part either. I don’t know where I’ll go next. This is the 4th place I’ve called. All of us are quite chilly.

If your stove is electric, turn on the oven and open the door.
December 31, 2017 at 1:45 pm
Bill,
The man is here to fix my furnace. He is now downstairs. It is down to 50˚. Oops, he just came upstairs and doesn’t have the part either. On to the oven!

You will want to keep all the rooms that have water pipes in them a little warm. And let your faucets drip a tiny bit if you don’t get your heat back on soon. But you may have some past experience regarding if you have pipes that are prone to freeze

Thanks, Spaceman, but I am thrilled to say the heat is now blasting. The first guy said it was the gas valve for which he had no part. Next came two phone calls but no luck. Finally a guy came and said it isn’t the gas valve but a connection to the gas valve. He got the furnace going in about 15 minutes! Wahoo!!

Good for you! Everybody who has been following your plight can breathe a little easier. And in the bigger picture, isn’t it a little scary to know how many service guys are not really that knowledgeable? We tend to think of them as experts but. . .

Spaceman,
I am happy women!

BG,
Had serviceman 1 correctly diagnosed the problem, I would have been warm and cozy before I went to sleep. He was in the right area, the gas valve, but it was only disconnected, not dead.
I was put out when the problem took so long to be solved. By then all of us, two and four footed, were really cold.

I’m glad to read the good news 🙂
10 pm here and it’s warmer outside than it was inside your home…
December 31, 2017 at 5:12 pm
Birgit,
Every surface was cold: my table here and the kitchen counters especially.
Outside is down to single digits!
