“Quiet diplomacy is far more effective than public posturing.”
Yesterday was a perfect day. The weather was warm but breezy enough to keep the heat at bay, the sun shined all day and we even found a table by the water at lunch. My sisters arrived with cake and presents. We went to lunch at one of my favorite places. As a surprise my sisters had invited my friends, and I was definitely surprised. My lobster roll was filled with huge chunks of lobster and the fries and onion rings were perfect. Just ask the gulls who snapped up the French fries we threw on the rocks. After lunch we came back to my house for cake and ice cream and presents. My sisters had chosen the best cake, mocha, and my favorite ice cream, coconut. After that, I opened my presents and was overwhelmed by the generosity of my sisters and my friends. We then sat on the deck a while chatting and laughing. I can’t imagine a better day, a better birthday.
Today is cloudy and a bit humid. The breeze is blowing the top branches of the oak trees. Rain is predicted for later. I do have to go out but not far and off the main roads. The bird feeders need to be filled again, and the fountain is empty of water. Gracie drinks much of the water away. The fountain is the perfect height for her. I fill it, she drinks it and we do this several times a day. She has a water dish on the deck but she ignores it. Dogs aren’t logical.
Quiet seems to be the order of the day after the excitement of yesterday. I don’t hear a sound: not a kid, not a car and not even a bird. I had Alexa play sixties rock, but I kept singing with the music instead of writing so I turned on the TV to MSMBC. It is still reacting to Trump’s latest diatribe so I turned that off. Instead, I watched the Food Channel with Giada who was making a Peruvian chicken dish and showing pictures of her trip to Peru. I suppose I could just turn off the TV, but I’m not in the mood for quiet, for silence. I have stuff I could do, but I don’t want to do them. I’m just fine with being a sloth, napping on the couch, wearing my comfiest clothes and going barefoot.

That food sounds delicious! Mocca cake however isn’t a big favorite of mine and I can’t for my life understand why. I love coffee and I love cake so it should be a favorite of mine π Perhaps we had it too often at holiday when I was a kid, my entire family back then seemed to have loved it so they always had it π
Rain all morning here and cloudy for the rest of the day. More rain is on its way they say and it can become a plentyful rainfall as well they say.It is warm though and actually quite nice outside.
We follow Trump with big interest here, how can anyone behave like that and say so many stupid things and still be the president? Then again You know what You have and is the vice president better? He obviously think the same as Trump but he’s quiet about it. With Trump at least You know what to expect I guess π π
Have a great day!

Christer,
The cake was so light our consciences would have allowed a couple of pieces. The frosting and cream fillings were also light and really tasty. There was a coffee bean on the top of the icing.
It is raining here now and has been on and off since around 2. It got really warm and humid. The day stayed dark. It was a day to stay home.
The vice-president is a snake oil salesman, someone who sells a bill of goods and can’t be trusted.
Most republicans have been too afraid of Trump and his mouth to say much. In the last couple of days, however, a few have criticized. One even said he wasn’t fit to be president, didn’t have the right mentality. He got attacked by Trump. His base believes everything he says though he lies more than he tells the truth. I have no defense for him and I am embarrassed by the president of the United States.

Hi Kat,
Your lunch sounds wonderful. I want lobster and french fries and seagulls to steal them. Maybe next week when I’m in Maine. Maybe I won’t give any to the gulls, though. π
My local pet shop has a doggy bubbler. My dogs are not all that fond of water unless it’s scummy lake water or birdbath water. Water with FLAVOR! And communicable diseases, probably. Anyway, the first thing they do when entering the pet shop is make a bee line for the lady with the treats and then head right for the doggy bubbler. It’s possible aerated dancing water is tastier that boring, still water in a dish. Maybe it’s the doggy version of drinking out of the hose.
It’s murky here today. I’ve had errands so have been in and out several times. It’s been spitting rain but not actually raining. Just enough to make it smell nice and make it feel very humid.
Enjoy the day.

Hi Caryn,
The gulls only got the fries after I was already full of lobster!! They’d swoop in, grab the fry then fly over across the water to the other side where they’d eat their catch. They even took onion rings.
I used to have a bubbler for Gracie, and she loved it, but it only lasted a couple of summers so I think you’ve found the answer to fountain versus dish.
I didn’t go out after all. I just didn’t feel like getting dressed for one errand.
It got really warm and humid here after it rained. The house was warm enough to need the AC. Gracie was panting, a sure sign the house is too warm. It is comfortable now.
Have a great evening!

Back from singing in the rain for a friend’s silver wedding anniversary. It reads like a great birthday with your sisters and friends. It’s nice that even your sister from Colorado came for a visit, it’s quite a distance.
Our national election is in about 5 weeks and campaigning officially started on Monday. It’s so boring that we hear/read more about Trump and your country than about our own parties and politics. I was glad to see that you got rid of Bannon.

Birgit,
That’s great that you can sing for a friend’s anniversary. That must have made it special.
My birthday couldn’t have been better. It was a wonderful day. I couldn’t imagine any better birthday.
My sister flew home today. I was so glad to see her and my other sister. Though she lives outside of Boston, I don’t see her much.
With the latest Trump fiasco of finally revealing his prejudices, which we all suspected anyway, the news has little of anything else happening. Bannon got his old job back so he isn’t gone for good.
