“There is no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.”

Last night was a long one. It rained the whole night. Gracie and I went out at about ten. I got a bit wet and so did she. I was still wide awake an hour or so later so I watched a Hallmark movie. Yes, it had a happy ending despite arson, theft and a murder. At one, after the movie, I roused Gracie to take her out again. She got to the door and backed away, but I was insistent. I should have paid more attention. It was a deluge, but she needed out for the night so I pushed her out the front door with me unhappily behind her. Though I ran as quickly into the house as I could, I got soaked anyway and so did she.

This morning at about eight, Gracie was restless, and she woke me up. We went outside. It was wet but not rainy. It was cold. We came back inside and I went back to bed, or back to couch to be more specific. I snuggled under the covers and the cozy warmth lulled me to sleep. Gracie joined me. I woke up at ten. Gracie was still asleep so I rousted her to get her outside. I led her to the yard then ran inside the house and made coffee. I read the papers and had two cups of coffee. It was a leisurely morning.

Rain is expected again today so the sky is mighty dark. What a surprise! I have some errands, and it is chilly enough for Gracie to come.

When I was a kid, rainy days always seemed different than other days. My classroom seemed quieter. The rustle of papers sounded loud. The rain on the windows caught my attention as the drops slid down the glass and disappeared. The day seemed longer. Lunch was inside, but we didn’t really care. The rain seemed to drain our energy.

In Ghana, I loved the rain. After the dry season ended, every rainstorm was a bit of a miracle. The brown turned green. The dust became soil. Trees sprouted leaves. The fallow fields came alive with the tiny shoots of corn and millet. Rivers sometimes overflowed their banks. I always felt the rain and never minded getting wet.

      Gnu,
This was a very good year for music. It is amazing the gamut from Blame It On the Bossa Nova to Little Peggy March to Bobby Darin. Add Al Martino. I don’t remember a few of these singers. Great to see Peter, Paul and Mary!

Reading for a rainy day, Dylan’s Nobel Prize lecture is online now:

    Hi Kat,
I always heard that as “there’s no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing”. However, damp and cold while waiting for dogs is still damp and cold no matter how dryly I have dressed. Especially when the dogs are having trouble deciding on the placement of their precious bodily ejecta.

It’s chilly and cloudy up here. There’s a heavy mist which is blowing sideways and which sometimes changes to actual rain. The house is cold. I gave up about a half hour ago and put the heat on. I am not proud but I am warm and unrepentant. 🙂

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Birgit,
      I like that, inappropriate clothing.

I stopped at a Hallmark store. When I left the store, I was shocked at how cool it had gotten. I was cold. My sweatshirt wasn’t enough.

There was also a mist from here to Brewster. It disappeared in Orleans, strange.

My heat went on this morning. I was glad as the house was chilly. I am in the stay comfy part of my life.

      Have a great evening!

      Gnu,
I remember all of these songs. 1963 was a big year. It is strange to see Edye Gorme and Al Martino with the other hits very different sort of music than theirs. I was surprised. It was great to see Peter, Paul and Mary with 2 hits.

We had torrential downpours on and off over the weekend with flooded underpasses and cars floating down streets. The rain will help catch us up on much needed rain.

      Bob,
We’re all getting drenched. Just today we got an inch and a half of rain. It will rain again tomorrow.

Next week is supposed to be mighty hot, could hit the 90’s though that’s Boston, not town here. We’ll be in the 80’s.

I almost mowed the entire garden yesterday before the rain started to fall, a rain no one had predicted. It was heavy showers for an hour or so. Too bad it couldn’t have waited another twenty minutes so I had bneen able to mow it all, even the outside the garden parts.

Today is sunny, warm and very windy and it is quite nice to be honest. The kitchen door is open and the animals can go in and out as they please, none will of course until I close the door 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
Rain can be terribly inconvenient. I was going to have my deck readied for summer, but with all the rain I have to wait for sunny days so the furniture covers can dry.

Dogs are funny and often contrary. Gracie barks at me when I say no.

      Have a great evening!
